FYI, The license key will work with the latest version of WordPress Download Manager Pro. And if you are using a very old version, there may require a manual upgrade (If auto-upgrade doesn’t work).
However, you can download the latest version from Premium Download Area as well.

In order to use the latest version, you have to renew/purchase the WPDM – Archive Page Version 4.1.6 add-on. The rest of the plugins are free.
You, don’t have to copy the files into the server. Just install the plugins throw the WordPress plugin installation area by following this and then replace old versions with the new/downloaded versions.
Also, since it’s a live website so are you giving me permission to install these plugins?

Also, since you are not using the downloads page/link anymore so you can switch back to the Post name permalink which will solve your issue.

For Category access and package roles please follow the below steps as I describe below,

Before giving access to a certain category for a particular role you have to set from the edit category option, then you have to make empty for Allow Access option or giving a particular role on it like as I image attached or as usual for select member option too,
