Thanks. Rusel from the WPDM team reached out this afternoon.
He provided what I need to move forward. These sorts of issues can take a while
to investigate and get to the bottom of. So please do not expect a response and

Thank you so much for your patience. I was able to reproduce a problem some of our users pretty clearly experienced. It only happens with very specific server settings. Here were the options I used (though some variations would still likely produce it):

In wp-config.php I had set WP_DEBUG to true
I had installed the X-Debug Apache module
    In PHP.ini I had set html_errors = On

When all of those settings are combined then a problem arises. This can be experienced by going to WPDM and uploading a file. On the upload page there is a large error message about undefinited notices in WPDM. Ignore that. Type in your file info and select a file to upload, hit publish. Once published try to download the file. It will instead download a .txt file called “file_not_found.txt”. If you inspect your post_meta table in the DB, you will see something like this for the ‘__wpdm_files’

    a:1:{i:0;s:163:”<br />
    <font size=’1′><table class=’xdebug-error xe-notice’ dir=’ltr’ border=’1′ cellspacing=’0′ cellpadding=’1′> <tr><th align=’left’ bgcolor=’#f57900′ colspan=”;}

What’s happening is that something within WPDM is generating a usually harmless PHP notice. You will likely notice these throughout WPDM with the above configuration settings. Ironically though the mere act of showing this notice is causing WPDM to actually glitch. Really changing anyone of the above settings to hide these error messages should fix the problem. Once WPDM has updated their code so that PHP Notices and Warnings are no longer shown, then you coould begin showing error message again if you so choose.

However, I believe that another user and yourself, are experiencing a different error. You are both on WP Engine. However you are both running the Pro version of WPDM. And after diving in that seems to be the most likely explanation of the problem. Unfortunately, I do not have access to that version. I requested it at the outset from WPDM, but they were not able to provide. I will request it again just in case they have changed their mind, but it is completely up to them as to whether or not they will give us a license and they might choose not to.

I have to address one thing though. The WPDM author said to you “The Events Calendar plugin author can do it better & faster.” in reference to one of our SQL queries. That is not quite accurate. When I first started using the plugin I actually thought the same thing. The plugin generates some of the longest queries I had ever seen. But as I dived in and tried to find way to make them faster and simpler, I found none. That was because our lead dev has spent literally months optimizing them and has done an incredible job. This has made the queries longer and harder for a human to read, but for a computer they are easy to understand and all the stuff that at first looks like clutter is actually very purposefully there to help a computer rapidly narrow the search results without lots of thought/computing power. It’s quite brilliant in the end, but it can make one of our queries look not great at a glance.

I really wish I had better news. We have invested a lot of time and money into this investigation. I will double check with WPDM if they are willing to help us bring it to a better conclusion. But, if not then there is nothing more we can do. 🙁

Please let me know if you have any questions. Last time I emailed them they responded within the week. Once I get a response, I will let you know what it is.

    Cheers!

    Hi

I have recently upgraded to the current version and am using DM + Premium Package. However, when I test the download links I am not redirected to the PayPal website.
Should the Premium Package licence key be entered somewhere?

    Any support would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hello Shaon,
Since I bought WPDM 2 years ago, I have this problem but never talked about it because, if didn’t had the time to tell you or to search about it, I didn’t think of it.
This means the issue is there for a long time. And as I have at least 50 new package to add, I would be interested to find a fixture for it.

When I upload a file to a package by dropping or by selecting a file from my computer, wpdm upload the file and store it to the download-manager-files directory in “uploads” dir. The thing is the url/link generated shown in “Attached file” frame will be something like “1426002156my-file.zip” in place of something more like this : “/home/www/b31ce591a875c260a6b5327f3d514bb8/web/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/download-manager-files/my-file.zip”.
What I do until now is to upload the file like explain, then remove the attached file from the “Attached files” frame, then reattach file by browsing to the uploads/download-manager-files folder. (a pain in the a..)

What can I do to fix this issue?

As I see it is already blocking direct download link access, form example click on this direct link http://www.genderjustice.org.za/download/digital-stories-case-study-for-sonke-nov-2009-pdf/?wpdmdl=1999 , it will not download file but it will redirect you package details page and from there you can download file.

    Dear all,

is it possible to add – beside the “e-mail” input field additional fields like “surname and name” as well as “title” or “organization”?

Is it possible to link it with the http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/mailchimp-subscription/ plugin then?

Our aim is that all data that are included in the form will be transferred into a pre-defined mail chimp list. Is this possible?

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hi,

I have problems to show the thumb for a file in a link template.

    My Link-Template:
    [thumb_50x50]

It seems as if [thumb] isn’t executed.
On the delivered page the a-tag is empty.

Do I need to generate the thumbs?
Do I need to make settings in the package, so that a thumb is displayed?

Google shouldn’t ( usually doesn’t ) cache the download link because of rel="noindex nofollow"
However if block hot link is enabled then access to direct download from external source or site or direct url access through address bar will be blocked.

Hi – I bought Block Hotlink because I thought it would block direct access to a Download page. I don’t want any access to the direct download pages – only through buttons I put in posts. I have enabled the plugin, but it isn’t doing what I thought it would.

However, Google has catalogued all my download pages and is linking to them directly – see here: http://www.genderjustice.org.za/download/digital-stories-case-study-for-sonke-nov-2009-pdf/

How do I block access to all these pages? I don’t want anyone visiting them directly.

    Thanks,
    Ian

I just noticed that one of the main questions in this thread (because it is a problem instead of a feature request) wasn’t answered.

When I started using WPDM, FTP uploading image files to a folder other than the default ‘download-manager-files’ and then using the ‘Bulk Import’ tool to ‘Import Selected Files’, would automatically copy those files to the ‘download-manager-files’ folder and have the proper file format icon linked to them.

At some point after installing a WPDM add-on, that functionality changed. Now when I do that same process, the file format icon gets linked, but the files do not get copied to ‘download-manager-files’ which results in the download link breaking. If I manually move the files into the ‘download-manager-files’ folder via FTP, the download link is fixed, but then the icon link is broken and I have to manually reassign the icon.

Is this ‘normal’ behavior? Is there anything I can do to get the original functionality back (automatically moving files to the proper folder and icon linking them)?

my system says there is a new version of wpdm – custom access level and wpdm=remote ftp browser available, but whe I click on the links it takes me to a page http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/#2.4.2 where no download can be found. Any suggestions.

For some reason every time I try to use the CSV import I am redirected to the Downloads page and nothing has changed. Are there any specific fields required for the CSV to upload? Do I have to have a url to link to the file? I’m trying to use this import feature for the Title, Descriptions, Templates, categories and lazy download.

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This ‘wpdm-all-packages’ view of the downloadable files is outstanding. It is very nicely done, but after doing some user testing there are some things that could really improve it.

    – Download label use the ‘Image Button’ add-on. This works on the Link Template and Details Page, but does not work in ‘wpdm-all-packages’. It would be great if it would, since users typically do not look to the right to see the ‘Download’ text link.

This goes back to the original question – can the ‘wpdm-all-packages’ template be modified?

I’ve also noticed some other behavior with ‘wpdm-all-packages’. When I started using this, if I FTP uploaded image files to a folder other than the default ‘download-manager-files’ and then used the ‘Bulk Import’ tool to ‘Import Selected Files’, those files would automatically get copied to the ‘download-manager-files’ folder and have the proper file format icon linked to them.

The WPDM Pro basic settings has a note about Category and Package URL Base fields…

“Caution: Use unique word for each url base. Also, don’t create any page or post with same slug you used for WPDM URL Bases below.”

Currently they are set to ‘downloads’ (Category) and ‘download’ (Package), which I believe is the default. The problem with this is that it seems to break the ‘breadcrumbs’ on our site? We are using ‘wpdm-all-packages’ to display a data table of all of the downloadable files. When a visitor clicks on one of the file links, it opens the package webpage. However, the breadcrumbs do not let you return to the parent folder (downloads) because the URL to the package is actually ‘…/download/[package webpage]’ instead of ‘…/downloads/[package webpage]’. This causes the breadcrumbs to be much less useful and means the visitor needs to either click the browser back button or reselect the Downloads page from the main navigation. This only occurs on the pages generated by WPDM Pro.

What is the problem with setting both URL Bases to the same word? Is there any other way to bring back the breadcrumb functionality?

    Thanks for any helps.

I really like this layout for the downloads list. The sortable and searchable data table is great! I’m wondering if this view is now or will in the future be able to be modified in terms of the information it shows? Currently it shows columns for ‘Title’, ‘Categories’, ‘Create Date’ and ‘Download’ link. I would like to show the file size (preferably under the Title, but a column is okay too), the applied Tags (in a column) and let the ‘Title’ be the clickable download link so that I could remove the redundant ‘Download’ column (luxury request ;-).

Is there any template or set of shortcodes that could be used to achieve some of these things?

What i want to do is add a a column, input text area for users to enter their twitter name. They will be able to write their twitter name from frontend addfile and from add new in the admin. For example am not using the “Version” section. How do i convert that section to twitter? Or how do i create a new section for the twitter?
Kindly advice me on which is easier, to convert the “version” section or create a new one. How do i go about it and what files and what to modify in the files?
I have only changed the word “version” on my custom template to “Artist twitter” but i dont know how to link it to the frontend and how to link it to the admin section.

    Please see screenshot.

    Thanks

I just bought this product and installed it. I tried to preview your templates admin > Downloads > Templates > Preveiw, but nothing happen. When I scroll over the “preview” button I can see the link is to “#”.

So, where are all the templates? Is there somewhere on your website I can see them? Please don’t send me to your demo page, I have seen that and it is not that easy to navigate.

BTW, your demo page has a misspelling at the top of the page “Downlod” instead of “Download”. My client nearly didn’t want me to buy your product. I recommend you clean it up.

if you use password lock, after use enter password once, the download link will be valid for 3 tries. But no way to bypass password, but if you are selling those, you can use http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/premium-package/ , then only customers will be able to download.

    Hello,

Please advise on this matter. We have attached directory to package and all files got listed in downloads table, but links to files all start downloading generic download-manager-file, and real file links are missing.

Could you please help with this, I’m attaching screenshot.

    Thanks,

    Hello,

I have recently purchased your plugin because I am selling antivirus/web protection software to people and I needed a way to lock down the installation files. I do not want anyone to be able to download my packages without first entering the password I give them. That way I don’t have extra licenses floating around that I’m paying for. Well today, on my android device, I got a notification that someone had downloaded one of my files. I have all download package pages not indexed and not in my sitemap and there is no direct link other than the forward I have from PayPal. So far, this download hasn’t been redeemed to a license, but it makes me nervous that someone could download the file without the given password…

Could you check to see if this is possible and if this has ever happened?

    Let me know. Thanks!
