So bot or any crawler can get it and try to access this link, usually based on response header, if it sees that is a download link, it can abort the request, but as soon as it tries to open the link download count is increased, but as it actually didn’t download ( Aborted when crawler detected as download link ), so it didn’t affect your bandwidth. So nothing is abnormal there.
And block hotlink add-on actually doesn’t restore normal functionality ( nothing is abnormal there ), but it protects direct download link sharing.
We are not interested in selling the files individually, but we need to make available to download the entire repository via a membership plans with varying duration .
The user can get the plan in two ways:
1. when the user makes a purchase woocommerce it is automatically activated a plan that lasts two months.
2. the user can buy a one year plan, for which it also provided a free trial.
Regarding the first point we need to use a third-party membership plugin because with yours, if I understand, there is no possibility, either through customization, to connect to woocommerce .
Regarding the second point we could use your plugin but we would need to make available, in addition to PayPal, also the gateway through bank transfer.
Therefore we need fundamental to be able to use in your template the shortcode of third-party membership plugin that restrict the content. I ask you, please, even if there is a way.

Moreover, I am on a dedicated server and have bandwidth monitors. when a link for a pdf that is 73MB is visited 20,000 times in one night, I would expect a spike in the bandwidth, which did not happen.
Can you please comment on these 2 points? as i am definite it is not genuine downloads. buying an extension to restore a normal functionality seems unfair, espcially that i am definite that there is no hotlinking that is happening on all my links at the same time.

Extremely sorry, but I’m exactly not sure what you trying to do, may you please explain little more. However, if you want to hide all package info and download link when user don’t have access, please select Hide Everything from wpdm settings page for the option When user is not allowed to download:
If user click on download button, it actually goes to that URL to start download. Probably users are sharing direct download link form there, however as @shaon said, Block Hotlink add-on can protect you from such sharing, users or bots will bot be able to access download link directly or from the shared link.

Earlier we used native share button from linkedin, But, native linked in share button doesn’t have callback function support anymore, they dropped it recently, so we implemented share button using their API, After login when you click on share button, it will share the package title, link and image automatically, after shared successfully you will see download button, but it is only valid for 3 times as earlier. However we will improve it farther more, will add a popup with share button to add custom message.

How can someone get the link in the form shown above, and even get the links for tens of files.

the link has the post name and download package number. how will a visitor know what package is in what page so he can manipulate the links?

Though it depends on your theme, you can change the most view selecting link template from Admin Menu Downloads Settings Front-end Tab
Even though we used nofollow with download link , but from v4.3.0, we even removed direct link, there shouldn’t be any issue with bot access except someone tyring it manually. But in such case, this add-on http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/wpdm-block-hotlink/ will help you.

I noticed that the font awesome css was not making it over to my link-template-bsthumnail template (http://www.furniturefirst.coop/downloadmgr/bedroom/bedroom-medium-high/). However it works fine on a page template such as “Metro Style” (http://www.furniturefirst.coop/downloadmgr/download/american-drew/).

Hi,
I discovered how bots access the files. I checked the logs of the WP Statistics plugin, and found that all the suspicious files have massive link visits.
the link was visited 46,896 times, although the page itself was visited like 200 times only.

there is no where on my website that i lik the files using the method above, as i did not even know this linking system.
can you please explain how this is happening? i am not saying that this is definitely bot activities, but having 4 stats sources that align in numbers makes the problem in WP Dpwnload manager.

Hi,
I bought the pro version of download manager and I try one problem with the users access to downloads. I allow access to download files for admin ands subscribers in a single file and settings but this roles can’t view the link because haven’t access ( they can read ‘Access Denied’ in the button ). I don’t know what is the problem because Administrator for example have all the capabilities and can’t access to download. In sinlge edit I can’t add users to allow access line. I need help with this, thanks 🙂

To accomplish this when they make a Woocommerce purchase we should be able to activate a membership.
Since your membership plugin does not interact with Woocommerce, we thought we could manage the restriction of the download link with the shortcodes of another plugin that, instead, works with woocommerce .
Similarly they also will be able to subscribe to a plan that allows themselves to download our content for a defined period. In this case we could sell through your membership plugin, but we should be able to allow, also the method of payment through bank transfer.

2. I need to be able to upload a new version of File1 in the admin area and update the version number but at the same time not have that effect the links to the individual file as i mentioned in 1.
