For the Subscription expiration date issue, I have been informed by our team developers that, it is because the wp pro membership checks subscription status when a subscriber logs in, those subscriptions still show active as none of those subscribers logged in after the expiration date. Hope you are well. For hiding/restricting downloads files/packages to certain user roles, you can give access to those roles from your files/packages Package Settings > Allow Access section. And if you are using the PRO version of WPDM you can check this option too from When user is not allowed to download > Hide Everything option as I image attached,
