need to add categories manually, as we have move to custom post type in v4, there was not way to keep those linked as slug and ids are changed. sorry about that, though some custom work issue raised in v4 migration, but it was for good and wpdm will be lot more stable now.
yes, upload all photos using ftp in a dir, then create a package and attach same photo in file list using server dir browser and also add the pic in featured image of the package. anyhow we are coming with a new add-on for preview feature from file list + watermark option very soon.

you simply need to change link template for archive page, you can change it from wpdm setting page, even you can apply it form short-code using template parameter link_template=template-id-here, to make it like demo : link_template="link-template-default"

player will not work for premium files as files don’t have public access, so if you want to add some sample tracks, please simply attached some mp3 files with that post using attach media. As, in case of premium or locked files, wpdm pro picks sample files to play from attached media files.
