Something unusual seems to be happening with the latest update. I’ve updated a PDF document and would like to use the master link across many sites. However, when I hyperlink to my main PDF document, a pop up box comes up and says the word “Download”, but there’s no option to do that, nor does the download happen. The link is correct (when I test it, it opens fine in another window). What is that popup box and how do get rid of it?

I’ve figured it out. Hopefully, anyone else running into this problem will benefit from this thread.

Shafayet, regarding your comment about backing up before updating, I back up daily, if not more often. As I stated, I was able to restore the deleted file from my backup.

Doc Dunning, I appreciate you chiming in. However, my custom templates have unique names and those unique names are used within the template file, as well.

Shariar, your response got me on the right track. However, it was WP Download Manager “documentation” that got me in this mess in the first place.

    For your reference.
    https://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/doc/short-codes/

According to this documentation, you are to use the “Template ID” in your short-code to source the template you desire. This does in fact work IF your custom template is in the “\wp-content\plugins\download-manager\tpls\link-templates” folder. However, once you move your custom templates to the “\wp-content\themes\my-theme\download-manager\link-templates” folder they will no longer work if you use the Template ID alone. You must then add “.php” to the end of the Tamplate ID in your short-code or your custom template WILL show up in Downloads > Templates > Link Templates (tab), but will NOT be sourced when you view the page, widget, etc. you’re using the short-code on.

    Just a wild guess here…
Maybe there is a difference in the plug-in code between the free and the pro version of WP Download Manager?

Adding the rel="nofollow" attribute in download link will instruct robots not to crawl the download link. Replace <a href="[download_url]">[title]</a> with <a rel="nofollow" href="[download_url]">[title]</a> in your link/page template.

I am using the form lock add on. The user must fill out a Gravity Form and provide their e-mail address, etc.

When the customer fills out the e-mail form to request the document, they receive an e-mail that says

Please click on following link to start download:
    #locked

In the backend of WordPress, if I use the “Generate download link” tool, it works and I am able to download the document.

However if you use the “Email download link” icon, which sends an e-mail that says Please click on following link to start download: with a button, if you click on this button, you get a screen that says ERROR — Invalid download link —.
    The URL is https://(domain, file/?wpdmdl=174&_wpdmkey=5d122b68db3ba&refresh=5d122b68dd44e1561471848

This happens with all download packages. The person does not have an email domain that we have blocked.

Yes, it is possible. Use the ” Generate Download Link” button under the package name ( In All Packages admin page ) to generate the link.

Ed – I was on the same trail as you, trying to work out how to create custom templates in my theme folder structure.

I found that putting a template in “\wp-content\themes\my-theme\download-manager\link-templates” does work, as long as I give it a file name that didn’t exist in the plugin’s folder, and that the comment line at the top of my custom template is unique.

By the way, I’m not planning to use the page templates at present so I can’t comment on whether its easy to customise them.

Maybe that helps, or at least gives you some hope … I’m still checking that everything is in order, so if I find something weird, I’ll post again.

    Hi,
With the latest version of wpdm pro ( 4.9.8 ), when single file download is active, you should see an individual download link for each file in the file list.
    Demo: https://demo.wpdownloadmanager.com/wpdmpro/descargar/multi-file-package/

@dru77ster, You can save your key in the new site. It is not linked to any domain. Make sure you have installed the latest version of Download Manager. Please check my first reply above and follow that method to update your WPDM.

    @krd
, As you have two licenses you can use WPDM on both sites using different keys. You are getting the invalid key error because of the old version. Please install the latest version on both sites. Please check my first reply above and follow that method to update your WPDM.

Adding multiple files. Bulk downloads (Zip files) are allowed, but stop displaying individual download links. I have set my global settings to allow individual downloads, but it does not appear when adding individual packages to allow downloads.
    I am running 4.9.7 with WordPress 5.2.2.

Any Page Template which uses the [file_list] template tag has stopped showing individual download links. I have a global setting to allow individual downloads, and even if I additionally set an individual package to allow the downloads, it doesn’t show up.

Interestingly, the [file_list_extended] syntax does show individual download links.

In the attached image you can see the [file_list] tag at top (no download buttons) and the [file_list_extended] tag below it (yes download buttons).

I appreciate any help. I am running 4.9.7 on WordPress 5.2.2. Thank you!

My apologies for not responding sooner. Your emails were going to my junk box. I’ve corrected that.

I understand custom overrides, so I tried this. The process described in the information you provided does not work.

I moved my two custom (link) templates from “\wp-content\plugins\download-manager\tpls\link-templates” to “\wp-content\themes\my-theme\download-manager”. After that, the custom templates were not not displaying correctly and no longer showed up in Downloads > Templates > Link Templates (tab).

Then, I moved my two custom (link) templates to “\wp-content\themes\my-theme\download-manager\link-templates”. Now they show up in Downloads > Templates > Link Templates (tab), but are still not being sourced and my pages are not displaying correctly. I refreshed pages, I cleared my cache, nothing helped.

Then, I moved my two custom (link) templates back to “\wp-content\plugins\download-manager\tpls\link-templates” and they started working again.

So please enlighten me as to what I am doing wrong or differently than what is being described here: https://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/doc/template-files/

I’m trying to use the [wpdm_packages] shortcode with the categories parameter described in:

[wpdm_packages] – WP_Query in a shortcode for download manager packages

when I do, all packages show up, rather than just the ones in the categories specified. I am using the category “slug” for example:

    [wpdm_packages categories="sweepers" paging="1" posts_per_page="10" cols=1 colspad=2 colsphone=1]

Using [wpdm_all_packages] works properly and respects the categories parameter, for example:

    [wpdm_all_packages categories="sweepers" items_per_page="10" jstable=0 order_by="field_name" order="ASC" cols="title|update_date|download_link" colheads="Title|Update Date|Download"]

The same issue occurs when using the Gutenberg block (specifying the category does not limit to the category). Any idea what is going on?

    I’m using:
    WPDM Pro 4.9.7
    WordPress: 5.2.2

Yes, you can easily remove the link from package title.

Clone the link template you are using ( looks like a Call To Action template ) from Downloads Templates page. Then replace the following part,

    <a href="[page_url]">[title]</a>

with just [title] and save it.

Then use this custom link template in your shortcode.

    Hi,

I have a parent page with a list of documents that can be downloaded from our website, but each document name is also a hyperlink to a page that shows metadata regarding that download that we would like to prevent people from clicking. Is there a way of presenting these as just text rather than as a hyperlink? I’ve attached an image that shows the situation.

I have done this for my main client. I added the full url and reworded the link label to make it clear it wasn’t a download. I had no trouble as long as I included the http(s):// at the beginning. I haven’t done it lately though so maybe something has changed.

    Hope that helps.
