you can use [file_list_extended] tag in your templates for image thumbnail, for PDF thumbnail you can use [pdf_thumb_WxH] in your page/link templates, please let me know if those help you

I have seen that you are using a very old version of WPDM, can you please update it to the latest one, please follow this instruction, put your correct license in Downloads > Settings > License and press Save Settings again. After that try to update again. Hope that it will work for you.
