create a new link template and use [download_link] template tag there, it will generate direct download link.

Also template preview option is in our to do list.
if you use category short-code then all link template will be from the category, anyhow your idea is good and we have no problem to add the option on next update

will be possible from v3.3.3, but in a different way, you will be able to add custom admin user for wpdm pro with different permission level. but now, if you enable multi-user option, each user will able to manage (add/edit/delete) their own packages but only admin will able to see all packages with full control.
