yes, coming soon, as we are done with wpdm pro, now will start with the add-on.
in that case, you need to create a parent category where cat1 and cat2 are childs. so use the wpdm tree for that parent category.

#1) frontend was not showing as you didn’t setup permission from Downloads Settings Front-end Tab , anyhow I set it up there now.
#2) wpdm tree also showing ok now http://wpnew.icpainc.org/?page_id=347 , probably there was not data when you tried.
#3) Looks like /download-manager/cache/ dir still not writable.

wpdm tree short-code will show all of wpdm categories and packages in tree format, please give me your url where you trying it.
“File Browser Root” is just used for browsing file when you are adding a file from server, not as upload base. All uploaded files will be stored in /download-manager-files/ dir.
but your theme is conflicting with the template, edit/clone the button template, replace [download_link] with [download_link_extended]
