As I see some images like http://downloadsermon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/just-believe1.jpg are missing somehow. However if you select an image again, it will show properly.
replace the_url_download with __wpdm_files and http://download.com/file.zip with a serialized array('http://download.com/file.zip')

User login infos are not working.
“We used to be able to add roles. Now we can’t” <-- not clear #1. from front-end any user will see only his own packages, from admin side, admin will able to see or edit all packages #2. Add description="Description Text Here" with short-code #3. not clear, but if you are using link template, you an use [categories] tag #4. IF you uncheck email option, email will not be sent anymore.
