Zip will not work for remote files. As files need to be in same server to create zip.

Page Template with wpdm only control the content area of details page, but to change full page template with theme like you do in regular pages, you need to use http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/wpdm-page-templates/ or need to create a new theme template with name single-wpdmpro.php
