• Hello,

In mind the main website idea is selling PDFโ€™s, Kindly advice about the availability of the few point below:

1. Allow adding sub-admins aka resellers and allow them to add end-users aka downloaders.

*** I already know that possibility to sell credit for downloads already available from your website but thatโ€™s for downloaders only and this website need to sell to organizations in big amounts then they distribute on to their downloaders.

2. Allow downloaders to signup with passwords automatically as main admin downloaders or another reseller downloaders.

*** Just to make sure each reseller can have itโ€™s own downloaders, Then of-course allowing resellers and admin to see what users searched and opened to preview or done downloaded with their credits, Some statistics for resellers and admin.

3. Search in admin for downloads to edit or remove, Now just browsing and paginate because the number or downloads would be around 100k PDF file. Each file (I guess already) should have itโ€™s own counter for views and downloads, If the script have stats for visitors thatโ€™s even better.

*** If the script can open PDF for preview some pages or part of the pages that’s great, Also if the script can read PDF first few pages and put it in the WordPress post body that’s even better so the PDF contents will be searchable inside the site.

4. Prevent repeated downloads because downloading for priced files will be charged by credits and real money, Even for a day after single download or after specific period such as when end-user pay for PDF file then the file downloadable for a day or so.

Iโ€™ve installed the testing free version and it doesnโ€™t look like the demo or the pro version, Is that a special theme ? May prefer the website looks to be professional PDF download such as http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/search.html

Sorry for the long message but please advice how much we can make this website and if you advice we buy every thing or just what we need and youโ€™ll tell us what exactly what we need and how much it cost to make purchase if .

Thanks.

Yes, you can. Use category shortcode for that. Install TinyMCE addon to insert shortcode easily.

Just an update to this…

I have so far deleted the package and recreated it. I have used upload, URL and file browser to the file. I have renamed the file. I have deactivated all my plugins, I have updated all plugins, themes etc. I have deatcivated the Download Manager plugin. I have regenerated the download key. I have cleared the cache – still it is not working.

The LinkedIn button remains blank when you hover over it and the Twitter Follow just downloads a text file which I have attached.

This is happening on ALL of our downloads.

This is now causing us very serioud problems and needs resolving ASAP.

Hi there,
Probably you can do that by setting access option somehow, you need to set Allow Access = โ€œuser-roleโ€ or specific user roles you want to allow access.
Check wp-adminโ–บ Downloads โ–บ All files(Edit)/Add file โ–บ Package Settings โ–บ Allow Access
Thank you

I am using the pro version to build a download area for a tech customer. They will not have a high volume of downloads (right now) but over time that will increase.

Here is the current page:

https://www.knupath.com/support/ (only registered customers who have signed an NDA can actually download)

As you can see, they have a May release and an August release. This is marginally workable right now (this is how they want it laid out) but down the road it will become unmanageable.

I would like to be able to either create a new metadata item called “release_version” that I can filter on “current” or “archive” in order to group all of the current releases at the top of the page. Currently I use three statements to build out the 3 category lists on the page:

[wpdm_category id="releases" operator="IN" title="Releases" toolbar="1" template="57a8ed44855d6" cols=1 colspad=1 colsphone=1]

Ideally I would like to add a filter like release_version=current onto the statement, in order to filter out only the files that I want at the top.

Is there any way to do this easily? I can see how to create a custom field, but don’t understand the nomenclature for filtering.

You can customize the all downloads table template here ../download-manager/tpls/wpdm-all-downloads.php

Hi there,

I want to show a user their full ‘Download-Manager’ download history in the woocommerce my-account ‘Downloads’ tab.

So I have got <?php echo do_shortcode(“[wpdm_user_dashboard flaturl=0]“); ?> in my user’s woocommerce account page (child-theme/woocommerce/myaccount/downloads.php).

Is there a way to show JUST a list of all the downloads a user has made in the past (preferably with pagination) and nothing else? Can the dashboard sidebar be hidden?

Something like: [wpdm_user_dashboard sidebar=none flaturl=0]

Thanks,

Chris.

Hi Shahriar,

A few things to add for your consideration….

re: ZIP files
It occurred to me that your tests involve creating a multi-file package and testing the download/unzip. Since we rarely have a multi-file package, this isn’t an appropriate test of our issue with zip files. What we typically have is existing zip files, which we upload as a single item for users to download.

I created another test package, which you can see here: http://test.nrocnetwork.org/resources/downloads/test-zip/

This one is a multi-file package, created via the “Attach Directory” function. All of the files in the root directory download just fine over FTP. However….

When downloaded individually (they are .doc files), MSWord pops up a dialog asking what format to convert them from (and it defaults to Unicode). See attached screenshot for how the file looks when Word tries to convert it.

When I unzip this file using Mac’s default app, it turns into a CPGZ file. I read up on that, and learned:

Why this happens isnโ€™t always completely clear, but it can be indicative of a few things:
– Corrupted file, either during download or from origin
– Incomplete download, stopped at 99% done or similar
– Certain web browsers mishandling a file during or after the download process
– A bug

The files are not being stopped at 99% – I am letting them download completely.
I have tested in both Firefox and Chrome, with identical results.

So that leaves a bug or a corrupted file. If it’s corrupted, it must be “during download” because I have proven repeatedly that the files are fine at their point of origin.

I hope this helps to point us in the direction of a solution. I am obviously not the only one experiencing this problem.

(Please note that it is not a “solution” to expect end users to download special programs like Keka or the Unarchiver (as recommended in the article) to unzip files. The downloads from WPDM must work with both Mac and Windows default archive utilities (which most of my end users will be using), or I may as well post up plain .zip files for them to download.)

Thank you for your attention to this problem. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Shahriar,

Thanks for protecting that screenshot in your last reply ๐Ÿ™‚ We are dealing with some sensitive information on our site.

I have been testing a lot. Still, I get corrupted files when I download them through WPDM, but if I download direct from the server (via SFTP) they work fine in their default programs.

What program did you use to open the file you tested in that screenshot? It does not look like Excel to me. Maybe you are getting different results because you’re not using Excel. An XLSX file is basically an XML file (whereas XLS is binary), so it’s probably compatible with some programs that emulate (like Mac Preview). However, our end users need our files to work in Excel, where they were originally created.

Here is a test I have tried a couple times, with the same results:

I created a new package: http://test.nrocnetwork.org/resources/downloads/test-goal-assessment-workbook/ with an attached file in XLSX format.

– I downloaded it out of the /download-manager-files/ directory via FTP and it opened up in Excel without a problem, so I know it is not corrupt or broken.

– I uploaded it to the package using the WPDM interface.

– Immediately after upload, I went to FTP and downloaded it, then opened in Excel. It’s still fine.

Next, I used the WPDM web interface to download the file: http://test.nrocnetwork.org/resources/downloads/test-goal-assessment-workbook/

When I try to open the newly downloaded file in Excel, I get the error message in the attached screenshot.

You will create multiple package and assign same category to same kind of files/package. Then you can use category shortcode to show those packages using pagination.

Btw, use TinyMCE addon to insert shortcode easily.

I have been using WPDM free for some time on my blog and today decided to purchase the Pro version mainly for the use of social media locks on my downloads.

It seems to work fine on the main page for the download like here:

http://blog.techygeekshome.info/download/vmware-vib-package-for-additional-network-card-drivers/

But, I have used the short codes for creating a “Downloads” page – basically all my downloads on one page, which is here:

http://blog.techygeekshome.info/2014/05/freeware-downloads-from-techygeekshome/

When you click the download link on the download of the “Downloads” page – it random downloads multiple files.

I also had the Top Downloads and New Downloads Widgets on the site but had to turn these widgets off as even on the main file page (like the first link above) visitors were getting the multiple downloads.

It seems that if there are other links to downloads on the page you are on, it tries to download those as well.

Any idea what may be causing this?

Thanks in advance….

I’m having an urgent problem with all file downloads being corrupt (except PDFs).

xlsx files are not readable by Excel
docx files are not readable by Word (Word tries to convert them from Unicode text, and they turn into junk)
zip files turn into cpgz files upon extraction and cannot be read

I have read about this problem in other threads, and there are several suggestions, mainly relating to file and folder permissions.

I did find that some of these permission problems existed on my site, so I checked and/or fixed them as follows:

file owner group is www-data www-data for everything

download-manager/cache is 777

uploads/download-manager-files (file root) is 775

uploads/download-manager-files (all files) are 664

If I download a file directly from uploads/download-manager-files, via Filezilla, the file is not corrupt. I have tested:

– zip files created by WPDM (a zip of zips)
– zip files created and uploaded by me
– xlsx files
– docx files (I’m getting some mixed results here, but that may be due to problems with the original file)

I will supply access information in my next (private) post. It’s very urgent that we get this sorted out.

Thank you in advance!

Atm I just have this
[wpdm-all-packages items_per_page=15 jstable=0 ]

Now it’s not possible anymore to sort them at all and there also isnt a search bar anymore. But I don’t have that much downloads so it’s ok for what I have. And then it’s sorted the way I added them.

It’s not really a sollution tho. but it’s better then nothing ๐Ÿ™‚

After creating groups and set price, you can assign downloads to any of those groups when you creating/editing a package. To control uploads, you need to user native WordPress role. Pro membership addon only controls download. From Admin Menu Downloads Settings Front-end tab you, you can select role to allow file upload from front-end, in admin side author or upper level role will be able to create package.

Thank you so much for the (fairly new) option to choose “Open in Browser”, before download.

But in wich PHP-file, when using wpdm-All-Packages/Downloads responsive list, can I change the code to make the PDF:s open in a NEW window or tab (target _blank), instead of open in the same?!

And can I use the target_blank code, or should it be something else??

This is important to us. Our clients get very confused when they after open and download have to BACK to get to our site again… They close the window after download and donยดt understand where the site went…

Hi I am modifying the PHP file wpdm-all-downloads.php (=all packages responsive list) and putting it in our child theme:

I have tried to change Create date
<?php echo get_the_date(); ?>
to Latest change/update/save date
<?php echo get_the_update_date(); ?>
but that code did not work at all…

What code should I use??

Hello Shahriar,

unfortunately, the issue is still open.
After preparing the link template code from home, I see the same behavior from my office PC, even a website shouldn’t be concerned by this.

On the page “https://silicon.software/know-how/download/” the tab “download overview” shows the correct page template, clicking “view details”.
Using the tabs “recent downloads” and “search downloads”, the [page_url] tag works self-referring and shows the download page, but not the detail page.
Is there a setting for page_url?
I am using “default values” and updated all link to the current link and page templates.
I was also using [popup_link] with the same effect.

Thanks in advance fr your help,
Michael

P.S. Let me know, if I should reactivate the temp login.

you won’t need to use save settings button in that page, if server’s files and dir access permission allows it to install plugins/add-on, it will be executed properly when you click on install/update button.

Also you can download free add-ons from here http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/downloads/free-add-ons/ and install

And premium plugin and add-ons from here http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/user-dashboard/purchases/

I downloaded the premium plugin and input my key. As seen in the plugin, I clicked to install the plugin, got a success message, and when I click save/reload, it prompts me to install again. I can’t access the features I paid for?

Additonally, how do I create a downloads page with listing of categories? I can’t find the right shortcodes in your documentation. Thanks.

1. Problem: I have WPDM v4.5.5. Unable to install latest update v.4.5.6 no matter how many times I tried.

2. Problem: When user downloads my software, he gets a download link email. I’m unable to customize this email even though I located where the email templates were in WPDM. The previous coder configured the first one but I cannot find it anywhere to customize it further.

3. Problem: To disallow robots to download my software, I activated the inbuilt reCAPTCHA through Google before a download can be initiated. When I click on “I’m not a robot”. it starts to load but hangs.

Hi. When you enable email lock on a file, there is a checkbox to ask for the visitor’s name. We need also to ask for the company name, how can we add another field here? Because below this, you have written “Will ask for email (and checked custom data) before download” So, what are these ‘custom data’ and how you create them?

It is possible to check by default these checkboxes?

It is also possible to send an email to the administrator when someone downloads a file with all this data (email, name and company name)?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I’ve set up the plugin and had a few teething issues (as a lot of people do from the looks of the forum!)

I’ve had to manually hack the class.PackageLocks.php file as using email lock, and when doing so the little pop-over’s title of simply “email” didn’t seem quite sufficient. Bit strange that there’s no simple way to change the fields or their labels on this through the plugins front end settings. Anyway, that’s fine, I’ve figured that out.

I’ve also changed the wording used on the success popover from “Download link also sent to your email!” to “Thank you, your download will begin soon” partly because the emails didn’t appear to be working (for my corporate email address at least, it turns out it does work for my personal address) but also because I don’t actually want emails sent to users – I only want the download to happen while they are on the site, there and then.

Please can you advise how I can turn off the email send function. We are simply using the email lock to understand who is requesting downloads of factsheets. We don’t want any automated emails going to them (especially when it seems tricky to edit the template of those emails to remove your own logo/advertising banner on the top!)

Thanks in advance

John

Hi, recently purchased the newest version in hopes to fix the issue where some of my customers can’t download files. Tried many things and came to conclusion that the problem is with https.

There are several issues here all starting with in the https.

1: I go to a PUBLIC download page on my android device as a VISITOR. The download page is secured (as is my whole site). If the download links are secured, i can’t download. If the download links ar not secured, I can download. So if the download links are just http and not https, then in this scenario everything is fine.

2: I go to a PRIVATE download page on my android device as a MEMBER. If the download links are secured, i can’t download and if the download links ar not secured, I can download (just like in the previous example). However, I can only download if the access settings for this package is set to “All Visitors”. Meaning that it is not protected from unauthorized downloads. If the access settings are set to “Subcribers”, then I get the “Access denied.txt” file. I guess because I am logged in the HTTPS version of the site not HTTP. So changing links to http is not really a viable option here.

3. And the last thing. Because the user is not logged in the http site, but in https site, PDF stamper is not doing it job properly either (can’t acces to the email that is supposed to be stamped).

So in simple words – How can we fix this issue, so HTTPS download links would work on all devices?
