3.2.53 is the last version that allows the internal /mnt directory to be the storage for the download files.

3.2.54 ended that feature.

What was this trying to solve? Please revert this capability – it allows security, it allows separate and convenient backup without bulging the wordpress space.

I cannot run the current versions – what bug fixes have been made such that I am running potentially risky software?

Thank you.

Hello again.

I continue to use the out of date version, and install new versions by hand with hope that they engineers will return what was working.

I reported last time that 3.2.50 allows for /mnt directories. Now I can tell you that 3.2.51 also works, but 3.2.55 does not. They took away a feature – by mistake???

I appreciate that you are looking into this – it is not safe running older versions.

Thank you – Internet Marine.

Hello Nayeem
3.2.50 includes the ability to route to my servers /mnt directory
3.2.60 removes the ability to route to my servers /mnt directory
3.2.70 continues this problem

Please ask whether and when this facility can be brought back – the idea of running old software in these times of bots checking for any security flaw…well, it isn’t good policy.

Thank you,
InternetMarine

Hello Nayeem –

thank you for the link. I will try a few of the old versions, but I hope they are still safe.

1) If your team mates tell you when they stopped supporting /mnt on the same server as the /var/www, please let me know.

2) Can you find out where in the code I could change the directory, since the GUI makes it impossible? Is it in the php or in the database?

3) And, is there a place that I can record a request for this attribute to be included in further revisions?

As you say Nayeem, indeed, the /mnt folder is at the root directory, which is standard for unix systems. I have successfully kept my DM files there for many many years. It was an allowed place in the DM Settings tab. …perhaps even suggested – when I set up DM many years ago I wouldn’t have known about /mnt

DM is successfully downloading my current files in the /mnt/down__ directory. This is not magic, this is the way that DM used to be.

But New DM Documents won’t route to there. The Settings will not allow it anymore.

For me, this is a problem. My Download files are several GBytes large. If they are in the public_html directory, the backup files would be too huge to handle and take too long to create. The files are also more safe there. It has never happened, but if someone did break into my public_html directory, they (hopefully) cannot go up to root.

The important thing is that this access issue has been changed in DM. Did this change with the “Server File Picker BETA”? Can I go back to the way it was before?

Thank you,
Int Marine

Hi and thank you for your answer. I was writing about a download issue, and your answer is about uploading.

But it seems that ‘turning off’ the Output Buffering and Resumable Downloads selections in the settings is the solution. I also doubled the download speed to 8192, and wow! the download really goes fast. 6 gig in 10 minutes for one person.

Can you say for certain:
For downloading, is there a limit with the Free version of the Download Manager?

I am getting close to making the package work well – I thank you all – and will be giving those 5 stars soon.

To be clear, these are free downloads that only require a passcode, hosted at digitalocean which doesn’t place any restrictions on files sizes like this at all. The site is cinematesttools.com, which works well otherwise. (Some files require registration, but the test files I have been asking associates to download are at: http://www.cinematesttools.com/index.php/download/xkcd1080/

I have just toggled the Output Buffering and Resumable Downloads to “Off” since they didn’t seem to be offering resumable downloads…

Appreciating any thoughts and assistance.

Am I not describing this properly, or do you see the problem and you are off fixing it? I’ve taken the site down to no other plugins and the Download Manager files don’t show up in the Appearance:Menus page.

Should I start a different thread? Perhaps my problem isn’t connected with the original poster.

Thanks.

Hi Shaon,

I must have mis-communicated the problem. What has happened at least 2, maybe 3 times is that things are set up perfectly, then the link to Downloads in Appearances: Menus disappears.
