you can remove, you need to delete unnecessary template files from /download-manager/templates/ dir. You also can use this add-on http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/wpdm-default-values/ to setup default value.
it simply looks like write permission issue and sometimes different servers behave differently even for same level of permission. And the error filemng: Error occured during /bin/cp command. is totally looks like something related with your server which I even don’t understand enough to explain you, please show the error to your server support, they can explain your better 🙂

Upload shouldn’t freeze unless it is crossing servers max uplaod limits. However, as you want, you can upload all of your files in /wp-content/uplaods/download-manager-files/ dir and use server file browser to attach file from that dir with your package and your file still be encrypted and secure.

it is because of open_basedir restriction option from your server, however I’ve adjusted it for next update, also I’ve attached here the updated file, please download and unzip it, then upload it to /download-manager/modules/ dir

it is always wp-content/uploads/download-manager-files as default, but if you want to change it, you need to change it editing code at download-manager.php

usernames will be recorded only when they are logged in before download, I checked here …./developers/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=wpdmpro&page=wpdm-stats&type=pvdaud&pid=45&y=2015&m=6&d=5 and they are tracking properly.
