Not at all an “inconvenience”, Humayon . Several hours of work and real monetary, unrecoverable losses. No need for you to respond again.

I rolled back to WPDM Pro 5.2.3, the latest pre-problem version that I had and I’m back in the saddle again. Great way to launch the weekend. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and helping me to “commiserablate”. Needless to say, the Download Manager support team is persona non grata. I will be looking for other solutions with a support team that doesn’t abandon its paid clients.

Thanks Marne. I’ve looked through my wp database using phpmyadmin but I can’t find the WPDM settings. What am I looking for?

Seems updating the settings is problematic for this version – I’ve tested on a clean install of WP as the only plugin and Save Settings doesn’t work.

Thanks Andy. I’m having trouble getting a pre-5.3.9 version try. I don’t suppose you know if and where I get one. I thought maybe these guys had older versions that could be downloaded but I can’t see that.

Down now for 7 hours without any paid “Priority support”. I’ve restored to a previous version of WPDM on a development platform and that seems to fix the problem. But I can’t transfer that installation to my production sites without loosing a lot of data. I’ve contacted my users to email me directly for download and I’m setting up another way to download or migrate the WPDM repository. I expect that will take some time so I’m open to any and all suggestions.

I thought you might have already tried my suggestion. Sigh. Hopefully, reverting to the previous version will fix the problem. Looking to my sainted host provider for a backup. He’s not on holiday.

“Very disappointing” – You’re being most gracious. I have been using my “special words”.

Bless you, Andy. I’ll try to find the previous version somewhere. My problem is the SAVE SETTINGS is not working at all. Can’t update the allowed file types. I’ve tried removing the “*” wildcard and also tried to enter single and multiple file extensions – e.g. “pdf” and “pdf, pptx”. But, again, I can’t save them. Looking for a backdoor to the settings. If saving settings works for you, maybe try a collection of file types and “,,”? – double comma without a space or with a space to allow files with no extension? Good luck.

Now down for 4 hours. SAVE SETTINGS doesn’t work so I can’t try the proposed solutions. Wondering if anybody out there might know of a backdoor to the WPDN settings – in a file? in a database? – that I access and update directly?

Anyone out there that is not on holiday?

Unable to SAVE SETTINGS implement your fix. I have 2 sites now down.

Still trying to SAVE SETTINGS. No Luck. Update or fix soon? Roll-back? Users have been unable to download for 3 hours now. Please respond.

Misspoke – I’m using WPDM Pro 5.3.9. Tried removing “*” wildcard and tried specifying just “pdf” and “pdf, ppt” but SAVE SETTINGS action doesn’t complete even after 10 minutes. Same problem with both sites that use WPDM. Returning to settings shows that save did not work. What now?

Urgent! Using WPDM Pro 5.3.7. After update, my users and I are getting “Invalid File Type” messages for all file types. Users are unable to download anything. Old version of WPDM Pro is working on my development site. Need a fix as quickly as possible.

One guideline missing from your list – Choose plugin vendors that provide comprehensive support.

Thanks Nayeem. Please forgive the delayed response. Having worked with WordPress since 2008, I’m familiar with the general recommendations you provided. But I do not have a good understanding of WPDM. I appreciate your desire to help, Nayeem, but I’m looking for expertise specifically for Download Manager. Am I in the wrong forum?

Hi Nayeem. While I appreciate the report, it doesn’t reflect the actual results. The image of the webpage shown in the report is through unauthenticated access and, if you examine the page image, you will see it shows “Sorry, but you do not have permission to view this content.”. In effect, you’ve tested the wrong page. If you authenticate to the site using the username and password you provided, and then try loading that page, you will get the actual load time, which is closer to 16 seconds. This is the load time I’ve seen and is confirmed by my users. Could you please try it yourself or assume that is is slow, as I have stated?

My original question was “Is there a better approach?”. Perhaps this question is clearer – “Is there a better approach that would reduce the load time?”

Thanks,
Roy
