Hello Martin,
Hope you are well.
If you leave the Allowed file types to upload empty like this then it will allow you to upload all default WordPress allowed file type.
All default accepted file type list can be found here.
Either you can declare the proper file type in the Allowed file types section or you can use the wildcard * instead without any space to allow all default WordPress allowed file types to be uploaded.
If still, the problem exists please share your temporary admin login info in a private reply and we will debug it.
Thanks
Hello,
I am facing the same issue since the recent upgrade. However, our files in question are Installer files (binary executables) that have no file extension. How can I whitelist such files? The uploading and downloading of the files in question worked until the recent update. How may I rollback to a previous version? We need this functionality restored ASAP.
Hello Andy,
Thank you for your query.
In the upcoming/next update you will be able to add installer files(binary executables) that have no extension by using wildcard (*
).
So, till then be patient and spare us some additional time.
Thanks.
Hello,
Thank you for the reply. When can we expect the update? Alternatively, can you make the previous working version available?
Urgent! Using WPDM Pro 5.3.7. After update, my users and I are getting “Invalid File Type” messages for all file types. Users are unable to download anything. Old version of WPDM Pro is working on my development site. Need a fix as quickly as possible.
Misspoke – I’m using WPDM Pro 5.3.9. Tried removing “*” wildcard and tried specifying just “pdf” and “pdf, ppt” but SAVE SETTINGS action doesn’t complete even after 10 minutes. Same problem with both sites that use WPDM. Returning to settings shows that save did not work. What now?
Still trying to SAVE SETTINGS. No Luck. Update or fix soon? Roll-back? Users have been unable to download for 3 hours now. Please respond.
Unable to SAVE SETTINGS implement your fix. I have 2 sites now down.
Now down for 4 hours. SAVE SETTINGS doesn’t work so I can’t try the proposed solutions. Wondering if anybody out there might know of a backdoor to the WPDN settings – in a file? in a database? – that I access and update directly?
Anyone out there that is not on holiday?
I was able to fix this issue my downgrading the plugin from an old instance on a backup server.
I needed to do this because some of our files have no extension and thus cannot be whitelisted.
What file types are you trying to whitelist? Can you share a screenshot of your settings as you are trying to whitelist extensions?
Bless you, Andy. I’ll try to find the previous version somewhere. My problem is the SAVE SETTINGS is not working at all. Can’t update the allowed file types. I’ve tried removing the “*” wildcard and also tried to enter single and multiple file extensions – e.g. “pdf” and “pdf, pptx”. But, again, I can’t save them. Looking for a backdoor to the settings. If saving settings works for you, maybe try a collection of file types and “,,”? – double comma without a space or with a space to allow files with no extension? Good luck.

I actually tried both of these, and the wildcard asterisk. Nothing worked for files without extensions. The developer says they have a fix where using * will allow all file types, including those without extensions, but we have to wait for the fix. Very dissappointing.
I thought you might have already tried my suggestion. Sigh. Hopefully, reverting to the previous version will fix the problem. Looking to my sainted host provider for a backup. He’s not on holiday.
“Very disappointing” – You’re being most gracious. I have been using my “special words”.
Down now for 7 hours without any paid “Priority support”. I’ve restored to a previous version of WPDM on a development platform and that seems to fix the problem. But I can’t transfer that installation to my production sites without loosing a lot of data. I’ve contacted my users to email me directly for download and I’m setting up another way to download or migrate the WPDM repository. I expect that will take some time so I’m open to any and all suggestions.
Roy, swapping out the plugin for a recent working version should not cause any data loss; no data (user data, download packages, templates, etc.) is stored in the plugin directory, WP segregates that stuff out as far as I know. It is better to be safe than sorry, but you are already sorry!
This was happening after update, I unfortunately can’t edit in admin (won’t save) and had to edit the database. Ticket is in.
Thanks Andy. I’m having trouble getting a pre-5.3.9 version try. I don’t suppose you know if and where I get one. I thought maybe these guys had older versions that could be downloaded but I can’t see that.
Thanks Marne. I’ve looked through my wp database using phpmyadmin but I can’t find the WPDM settings. What am I looking for?
Seems updating the settings is problematic for this version – I’ve tested on a clean install of WP as the only plugin and Save Settings doesn’t work.
I rolled back to WPDM Pro 5.2.3, the latest pre-problem version that I had and I’m back in the saddle again. Great way to launch the weekend. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and helping me to “commiserablate”. Needless to say, the Download Manager support team is persona non grata. I will be looking for other solutions with a support team that doesn’t abandon its paid clients.
Hello @roysinn,
We are really sorry for the inconvenience.
Currently, we are on Eid vacation now, our full dev and support team will start working on 17th May.
Maybe your host/server is blocking the request. You may try adding the following to your site’s .htaccess file to get it to work:
<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterRemove 001868
</IfModule>
Or, you also may contact hosting support.
If still, the problem exists then could you please open your topic in the Pro forum?
Thank you.

Not at all an “inconvenience”, Humayon . Several hours of work and real monetary, unrecoverable losses. No need for you to respond again.
Hi WP Download Manager,
I have read through all the messages in this post and I am still facing an upload problem.
See attached screenshots.
I have allowed the following files types in the settings: “gpg,pdf,jpg,png,c4z,eps,dwg,txt,rtf,swu,upd,zip,s19”
However, when I upload a file, e.g. 12345678.gpg, I get the following errror: “Upload Error:
File type is blocked for security reason!”
Any suggestions for a solution?
Thanks in advance
