Thanks. Sorry for the delay on my side. I will check the log. But can you just tell me what exactly this process SHOULD look like? I really need instructions more than troubleshooting. I don’t know exactly HOW this is supposed to work, so I might be doing something quite wrong or missing a step. Instructions for what to do and what to expect would be much appreciated. For example, what triggers the email form to show up? Is it the page template or the link template?

I can’t right now – but I provided the exact content of the template above.

I’ve removed the IP block, sorry about that!

I have already enabled the email lock setting for the download I want to offer, but “nothing happens”. I am trying to understand what step I am missing. If my button/link just takes the user to the page for the item, nothing shows up to ask for the email address. Should I be using a special LINK template, instead of thinking about the PAGE template?

This is the package page:
http://nroc.org/resource/montana-scaling-ebook/

You will see that there is no preview available, and no button to download. The download button disappears when Email Lock is enabled (compared to the other page/package, linked in my previous comment, where there is a download button). This page/package uses the “page template” code referenced above.

How do I link to that page/package in a way that triggers the email lock form, and asks for an email before going to the page?

Thank you!

This is the page template:

<style type="text/css">.more_previews_a{display: block;float: left;margin-right: 6px;}</style>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">
[description]
<br />
[file_list]

</div>

</div>

<div style="clear:both;" class="preview-trouble-options">Preview enabled by Google Docs. Trouble? <a href="[page_url]">Reload</a> the page or <a href="[download_url]">download</a> the file.</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="col-md-12">

    [doc_preview]
</div>
</div>

Example page of our content:

http://nroc.org/what-we-offer/edready/

Scroll down to the “Case Studies” section (after videos).

Each of the thumbnails on this page link to whitepapers tracked by WPDM. They are just regular images with captions, linked to the packages, not using the WPDM link template.

An example of one existing package in working order, without any need for an email lock, this uses the WPDM Page template above:

http://nroc.org/resource/case-study-waipahu-high-school-early-college-stem-program/

What I want is to create a “download” button on a page, which then requires the user to provide email address before downloading. The PDF preview shown in the above example is not required, I just used it because it’s our standard template.

I’m fine with a direct download or email link……but the problem is that I can’t get the email input form to display anywhere in this process and I’m not sure what part of the sequence I’ve got wrong.

Thank you

It must be the thing to do in Feb 2018! Yes, this would extremely useful and would prevent bogus downloads (made up email address).

Ah, that’s great to know. I thought the File Manager might do it, but I didn’t understand exactly how to go about it. Now I do. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you @shafayet.

Hi, has there been any progress on this issue? I would really like to see it fully fixed, rather than this workaround I’m doing. Can you make it so that the “browse” tab ignores the difference in domains, and the browse tab works in both cases? Right now, I’m having to create special links and it’s very clumsy.

Thanks

yup, I understand that. But just be aware that the “fix” in that file, is not actually the fix. The fix is to use the correct URL. The file was supposed to contain a fix so that cross-domain access becomes a non-issue. This is how it should be, since multisite users often have sites with different domains, even on the admin side. As it stands right now, I have to create a special link to add downloads, and in some cases (such as editing an existing item) change the link after loading the page, because the standard link (in the admin sidebar menu) does not work. I hope you can provide a file that does fix this issue. Thanks.

Interestingly, this file did not fix the problem. But when I changed the URL I was using to access the file manager, it worked — with BOTH files (old and new).

http://nrocnetwork.org/nroc/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=wpdmpro << has no files in the browser tab

http://nroc.org/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=wpdmpro << this one has files in the browser tab

So maybe the issue was not with the file itself, but with the fact that I was using the base URL for the whole multisite network instead of the URL for the subsite?

We don’t permit FTP access into our site. We only allow SFTP, and we have to know your IP address to give you access, and provide you with a key file.

Can you tell me what you’re looking for? I would think that the “details” would be within your own plugin, and you would not need to look at the plugin in my environment to fix it. But if you need to, the plugin editor IS enabled, and you can see the files from there, using the superadmin access I’ve provided.

If you absolutely must get in via SFTP, please provide me with your IP address and a secure way to provide you with a key file. Thanks.

You said you’re “checking this in details” – does that mean I should wait to hear from you? I really need to get this fixed asap. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

I know this used to work, because I tested it a few weeks ago. The browser root default is using a server path /var/www/html/etc so it should find the content regardless of the domain it’s on.

THANK YOU!!! That fixed it!!! Hooray!!!!

Is there anything I can do to put this in a mu plugin so that I never run the risk of overwriting this code with an update? It’s absolutely vital to our security model, so I want to be sure it’s protected.

I put the exact code from the template file into a regular WP page, and the shortcode gets processed just fine:

http://dev.nrocnetwork.org/resources/shortcode-test-page/

BTW, the template is called NROC Protected Content (Admin/Tech) and it’s ID is 570d26199c76e

There is also another plugin’s shortcode that is not being processed in the popup, but IS being processed in the test page.

[bc_user_groups amount=”1″ avatar=”0″ type=”newest”]

In the test page, it produces the link to “Virtual Arkansas”.

I did some checking based on this statement about the fix, from my earlier post:

Iโ€™ve applied do_shortcode function on post content for popup in extended short-code add-on.

I did a search through the php file for “do_shortcode” and it’s not there. Maybe it got missed in the recent update?

If you can please please provide me with the code to fix this, I will drop it in myself. We are desperate here — this is exposing secure content to people who are not allowed to download it.

Thanks

Yes, I know that. In my previous post, I explained the steps I took:

I created a new package, it was saved in draft format, and then my superadmin user (who is now also an administrator on the site) added tags and published it.

So this is a PUBLISHED post, which isn’t showing up. Same thing happened when I posted from the frontend as an administrator. I went in as superadmin, published the post, and it does not show up.

But based on your reply, I am assuming it SHOULD show up, so this must be a bug or conflict. I will test for a conflict, and get back with details.

Thanks for all the answers. Very helpful. Although I think I need to clarify my last question/issue….it’s not just about accessing or modifying it (which I understand I would only do from the backend), it’s about displaying it for end users to see.

On pages of my website, I have lists of packages created by the [wpdm_category] shortcode. Those are public lists. Anything I (or another user) created via the frontend uploader does not display in the list when that shortcode is used.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the purpose of having a frontend uploader?

So far, any packages I have uploaded from the front end do not display on my page. My first test was as a use with “editor” role in the site. I created a new package, it was saved in draft format, and then my superadmin user (who is now also an administrator on the site) added tags and published it. But it did not display in my list.

Then I tried just creating and publishing a package from the backend, as the superadmin/admin. That worked fine.

So I tried creating a package as superadmin/admin using the frontend uploader, it was saved in draft format, and then I went to the backend to add tags and publish it. It does not display in my list.

Is there some restriction that I should be aware of? Some setting I should tweak? Or does this sound buggy?

I also noticed that the “Settings” tab doesn’t do anything. There’s just a “save settings” button on the page, but no actual settings to tweak.

Ah. Yes, it seems my superadmin did not have an explicit role on that site. I would think superadmin would override all the permissions as in other plugins. But good to know in any case. Thanks.

Now that I’m able to use the form, I have tested and I have a few more questions:

– I don’t see an option to add tags via the frontend interface. Can that be done?

– There are a lot of options on the frontend uploader that our editors do not need (like file size, icons, etc.). Is there a way to select what shows up programmatically, or do we need to work it out with CSS?

– The checkbox “save as draft” shows on the frontend, and the button says “save package” — shouldn’t this change when I’ve selected to automatically save frontend uploads as a draft? It would make more sense to not have the checkbox, at least. Maybe “submit for approval” instead of “save package”? I suppose I can do this with CSS and .po file, but would be nice for the frontend to automatically match with settings selected.

– We don’t want to add or expose “author” pages and don’t want users editing them. Can we remove this option from the frontend uploader?

Thanks in advance!
