Sorry for all of the follow-ups here, it also looks like only the [#sender_name#] placeholder has been fixed. At the moment none of the email notifications are showing anything in the [#first_name#] placeholder spot in the email notifications anymore.
Also, when a subscriber level (or other non-admin user) replies to an admin user the email notification goes to the email set in the “Admin email to receive private message” settings instead of the to the actual email of the admin user who messaged the subscriber. This will be an issue for the website since there will be several admins who may need to message users and will need to get their email notifications when a user replies.
I see that the placeholder text is fixed, thank you for addressing that.
However, the message notification emails are still not going to the proper email address for all replies. Message replies between admins are still going to the plugin setting’s “Admin email to receive private message” instead of to the actual user account’s email address. This issue has been shown several times in the shared videos linked above if you need to see details on how to recreate the issue.
I can see that the message went to your test user while that user was a subscriber, but after updating your use to an admin the emails are no longer going to the gmail account that you set as the test user. It seems this bug is an issue when the receiving account is an admin user, here is a video showing the emails working when the user is a subscriber (though still showing placeholders instead of the actual names) and then the email notification going to the wrong email when the user is upgraded to an admin:

Aside from that, the emails that did go to your test user had placeholder text instead of the user names in the emails.
You can see in the screenshots from the email log here that the emails are still saying “hello first_name” and that a message came “from sender_name”
Here is a video showing what we’re seeing:

Yes, the admin email is set in the Messages > Settings > General section.
Any message notification email being sent to that admin email has placeholder text for the first_name and sender_name values, though the message text placeholder is rendering correctly.
We’re also seeing, as shown in the video above, that only the first message notification email is going to the proper user and all message replies are generating a message notification email that only goes to the admin email set on the in Messages > Settings > General section, the actual user the reply was sent to never gets an email notification.
We’re using version 4.0.0
Also, it seems that message replies are all being sent to the admin email and not to the user the message is a reply to. The first message is triggering an email to the right user, but then replies are triggering emails to the admin email instead of the user it should be sending the notification to.
Thanks, that fixed the theme compatibility issue.
Any update on this release?
Do you have a sense of when the update will be released?
Thank you!
Our site is 90% complete and built on Gutenberg using WordPress’s default Twenty Twenty-Five theme. We’ll need to look elsewhere for a message plugin if this one isn’t compatible. We wouldn’t have purchased a license for this one if this incompatibility was listed with the plugin details. Are we able to get a refund since we won’t be able to use this plugin going forward?
Are you saying the plugin just doesn’t work with the standard / default WordPress Twenty Twenty-Five theme that ships as the standard theme with WordPress?
