Ultimately, (for the time being) this is what solved the problem…

To add further to why the session_start function solution is not relevant, with the latest version of DM installed, even though the error message is displayed on the face of website, the downloading of files is working very well. This means that the session_start function is enabled at the server level.

No, the above did not solve the problem. It created an error, which led the wordpress to deactivate the plugin and hence the error message vanished. I noticed this later.

With respect to the enabling session_start function at the server level, I have checked with the godaddy server team. They say that they have not disabled any such function. In this regard, may I add that the session would be required for old version i.e., 2.6.x. If I install old version of DM, the website works fine. The problem is with the new version of DM only. So I think, session_start function would not be the reason behind the problem.

Coming back to the problem, after installing the latest version of DM, the additional information (other than the error messages which appear on the face of website) I want to share is that the welcome page says…

Migrate Data
Looks like you were using v2.6 earlier and there are some data already, anyhow you can migrate those data to 2.7 from Admin Menu Downloads Settings Migrate Tab
You also can get back to v2.6. To do that, delete current installation of v2.7, Download v2.6.96 and install.

When I go the the migration tab, the status for all packages is shown as migrated.
Request you to kindly reply asap.

The problem was not with the disabled session_start. In fact it was with the white space at the end of download-manager.php file.
https://support.godaddy.com/help/article/1654/what-do-i-do-when-i-receive-a-php-header-error-message?locale=en&ci=46061&countrysite=in this link explains the problem better.

Just removed the white space and the problem vanished.

Thus request you to incorporate this in your future versions of the download manager

Thanks for the response.
I have discussed this with the hosting support. But they are pointing me to the error which reads, “…. wp-content/plugins/download-manager/download-manager.php on line 15”
They say this error is related to download-manager.php file, which the author alone can resolve.
Further, they also asked me to uninstall the plugin and check. When it worked fine, they re-iterated that the error is with the plugin.

I am now stuck.

If the problem is with the server and as you say it can be fixed in few clicks, can you please elaborate. I need to explain this to the hosting provider, may be it will help him understand the issue.

When the plugin is rolled back to version 2.6.96 everything works perfectly fine.
However, while updating the plugin to version 2.7.X.X, I am getting the following error

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/home/content/66/10402966/tmp/sess_o8j63939mvol2ukgu6563vkmt6, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in /home/content/66/10402966/html/wp-content/plugins/download-manager/download-manager.php on line 15

Plugin reactivated successfully.
Warning: Unknown: open(/home/content/66/10402966/tmp/sess_o8j63939mvol2ukgu6563vkmt6, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in Unknown on line 0
Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct () in Unknown on line 0
——————————————————————————————————————
MIGRATION:
Status of migration of the data is Yes for all packages.
However, the screen starts with the warning message as under;
Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/home/content/66/10402966/tmp/sess_o8j63939mvol2ukgu6563vkmt6, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in /home/content/66/10402966/html/wp-content/plugins/download-manager/download-manager.php on line 15

and the same screen has this warning message at the end…
Warning: Unknown: open(/home/content/66/10402966/tmp/sess_o8j63939mvol2ukgu6563vkmt6, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct () in Unknown on line 0

Further, the website (kkplaxminarayanmumbai.org) shows this error message on the top
Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/home/content/66/10402966/tmp/sess_c5s9hoe3ofib74bkv16agdpul3, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in /home/content/66/10402966/html/wp-content/plugins/download-manager/download-manager.php on line 15

—————————————————————————————————-
I have deleted the plugin from FTP and reinstalled it, did not help. I have rolled back the plugin to ver 2.6.xx – works fine. But when I update to ver 2.7.xx, the problem persists.

I spoke to the webhosting company. According to them, it is the problem with the plugin and there is nothing do be done at their end.

Request you to kindly help the issue to be resolved.
Thanks in advance

My website is http://kkplaxminarayanmumbai.org and after installing/updating Download Manager 2.7, I am getting the following error:

Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(/home/content/66/10402966/tmp/sess_fbophho0iqf4jj136gptv7gmf4, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in /home/content/66/10402966/html/wp-content/plugins/download-manager/download-manager.php on line 15

I have tried removing and reinstalling the plugin, but it does not help.
