So what you’re saying is that WPDM in fact does have have any category hierarchy with setting access levels/permissions? Is there anyone in support that can confirm as it sounds like you’re just guessing. Cheers

Yeah so that doesn’t work.

I have a top level category with the user added. The user can see this category.
No other subcats are showing. They don’t have any specific settings other than Access Level set to subscriber but that shouldn’t matter because all my users are subscriber.

I added the user to ONE of the subfolders, and it now shows.

That means this isn’t related to file permissions. But I’ve also got the file “Allow Access” empty anyway, just in case it was.

Any other ideas of what could be causing access control on child categories to not work from parent category?

Maybe you could test this on your version, just add a user to a category and then see if that user can view all child categories and files with using wpdm_archive.

I’m guessing maybe permission hierarchy was never actually done and like the ‘Hide Everything’ issue I had where in the end it turns out it doesn’t actually work.

[wpdm_archive button_style=”primary” template=”default” order_by=”post_title” order=”asc” items_per_page=”120″ cols=”1″ orderby=”title” category=”244443″ include_children=”1″]

Category permissions for a user on a level 1 (top level) category should carry over to sub-categories.

If a user is given permissions to view or download files in level 1, then then subcategories (level 2) they should also be able to see files for. Currently, if I add a user to level 1, they can’t see anything in the subcategories, and I have add them individually to each subcategory.

So there’s category hierarchy for user permissions??? When I say permissions I’m talking about access levels.

I’ve done the customisation now to this so it’s working, all in functions.php.

The folders works well enough, those that don’t have access don’t see them.

The packages previously doesn’t work with hide everything turned on, it’s broken. If hide everything is off, the files that a user doesn’t have access to will see an no access button. With hide everything on, it just completely breaks and everything disappears. Whatever the intention for hide everything was, it wasn’t working.

So I did this a simpler way by turning off hide everything so whatever code is attached to that is gone, and just used jquery to hide any button with the .btn-danger class. That then means pagination is a bit broken because it’s still counting hidden files, but I didn’t need pagination anyway. But that could be tweaked perhaps and tied into hide everything in the end.

Let me know if you want the code, obviously not free I had to pay a coder for it. Unfortunately I never would have purchased WPDM in the first place if I knew this advertised feature didn’t actually work at all, but by the time I had everything set up and purchased all the addons needed and found that hide everything doesn’t work, it was better to just to code it in than start over with another plugin.

So is it going to take much to add it to categories and files as well? As should be everything not just packages.

Right so I’m obviously just being ignored now after 3 months of requesting support. I’ve got 2 weeks to get the website complete so I’ve now had to hire a coder to fix the broken things in this plugin.

I’ll happily be posting 1 star reviews because you guys have mucked me around for so long.

I’ll let you know the cost afterwards and can send you the fixes if you want them, or continue to sell a broken plugin to customers.

Who are the developers, can I contact them? Have they even replied to the first two times you forwarded the issue?

It’s been another 3 weeks, any progress? Are the developers of this plugin looking at this bug or replying at all? I feel like this is quite a big bug. Anyone that wants files with permissions for certain users, but don’t want users to see every file and folder on the website, this WILL NOT WORK in Download Manager currently. Every user can see every file and folder. They just can’t open it. If ‘Hide Everything’ is selected it’s completely broken.

Even your own downloads section doesn’t work this way. When I go to download the plugin I don’t see a huge list of every plugin even the ones I don’t have access to.

Like I said perhaps I can get this issue fixed on my end and I can let you know the cost for reimbursement and send you the files afterwards that were changed?

If you can’t fix this bug, let me know so I can move on to another plugin because this website project has been held up over 2 months waiting for answers.

Hi,

It’s been almost 2 months now with this ticket open, I need to launch this website but in it’s current format it can’t go ahead using WPDM with Hide Everything not working. Probably soon I’ll have to find another plugin so will need to get a refund on this one or hire a coder myself to fix the issues. Have the developers looked into the issue and discovered the problem yet, or have an ETA? If they need more info I can try to help.

Thanks

Hi,

Yeah top-level/sub categories and the Advanced Access Control addon when it comes to category-level-permissions combined with Hide-Everything that isn’t working as it should.

Thanks.

Hi,

What are the differences in set up between your version and mine?

I’ve updated to the latest version but it’s the same. It was only 4 weeks old so probably not an old version issue, must be something in setup.

Hey
Here’s the uploaded PDF
https://ibb.co/5GHv3K7

Maybe easiest way is to login to make dev site and you can change the settings there to see if it’s just a setting that is causing the issue. But I think overall it’s probably not, it’s that the Hide Everything hasn’t been set up to work with the archive plugin using category-based permissions.

Cheers

Hey

I’m not really following.
If I set the package to be All users or subscribers, then this appears to completely ignore the category Access Level.
I’ve done this to the package named “Linechart 3.1 UIC V3.1.986” if I set to all users then sure enough now all users can see it whether they’re logged in or not, even though there’s an Access on the category that’s set to one specific user only. The category itself still doesn’t show up the Archive tree though, so that’s definitely failing for logged in users that are supposed to see it.

It seems that package access overrules category access so I can’t really put anything under package access for the majority of users unless it’s a file to share with one user only.

So what do I need to set the package to, so that it ONLY shows for the user specified under the category, and actually shows on the frontend? I’m hoping I don’t have to specify each individual users for each individual package, as there could be thousands.

If it’s not currently functioning, how much will it cost to customise and get it working properly?

I’m wanting this
and Package Access = Package Access empty + Category Access(Author) = Author

But not author, it’ll be the users specified under category. The files currently work, but NOT with Hide Everything, while the Archive tree is not working at all with what’s under access levels.

Thanks
