On your subscribers page/table you need to include the data about which category and which author was attached to the download package. This is essential if anyone wants to be able to do some marketing follow up after someone has downloaded a package.
For example if you know a user downloaded something from a particular author you could then follow up with an email to them offering further books by that author. Or if they downloaded something from a particular category then you can market to them with other books in the same category for a discounted price.
I can’t believe this data isn’t included already – it should be core functionality. If you’d also like this feature let the developers know and if it gets enough support it will be included!
And for those that use Mailchimp, if the same fields are available then you can automate your sales pipeline with triggers on particular downloads.
