Download counter not working with direct download link

Hi there

I have added some files and am using the direct download link as per the following example:

http://myurl/download/documentname/?wpdmdl=3937&masterkey=5e5f8af91035c

This works great on the frontend and the file opens and downloads. However, the counter doesn’t count these as downloads. They all still say zero downloads.

Any ideas?
