Hi – will do
Regards
Hi Nayeem,
Thanks for the explanation
All good – I will check it out.
I actually couldn’t find this information in the Docs … is it in there somewhere?
Best wishes
Hi
Thanks for explaining. I didn’t realize that just the page slug is enough and no shortcode is needed on the page. Is there a way to affect the styling/template of the listing – I note that yours looks quite different from mine? ie. parameters to display, number of columns, colours etc.
Regards
Hi Nayeem,
I actually wanted to find out what it is supposed to enable?
I couldn’t find a reference to it in the Docs.
Thanks
OK – just tried it out and it seems to working.
Thank you for fixing it so quickly!
I have a few other more minor import related queries – should I start a new thread or carry on here?
Thanks – I’ll try it out
It looks like it is 6.2.4 now though … is this correct?
Hi – I look forward to a solution ASAP please as the project has stalled until this bug is fixed.
Thanks
Hi – Any ideas?
Thanks
Hi,
I was trying to edit it and it just disappeared!
In any case, what I tried to say was that I did understand your work-around but we have thousands of files and hundreds with an & in the file path so it would take a lot of time to do it manually.
The problem appears to be due to encoding the & character into it’s HTML version (&) before it is stored as a in the DB (meta_key __wpdm_files). This is of course good for file titles etc. but definitely not for file paths!
We are under time pressure so it would be really helpful if someone at your end would give me a pointer as to where the conversion takes place… I did have a quick look and ImportExport.php and wpdm-functions.php but with my, shall we say, intermediate PHP skills, some help would speed it up and would be appreciated.
Please would you get back to me ASAP with a workable solution.
Thanks
I posted a long-ish reply here and it just seems to have disappeared … Can you see it?
Hi,
You say: “However, in the meanwhile, you can bulk update your packages with any plugin or tool.”
What do you mean? Is there an alternative tool/plugin that would allow for the initial import? Can you suggest one?
I have now also found that if there is an ampersand (&) anywhere in the file path (not just the filename) the same problem happens.
Please note that the main reason we paid for the Pro version was the import function so would like a solution to the problem now, not some time in the unknown future. I am happy to edit the code until there is an official update so would you please forward it to you developers asap and get back to me with a solution to this bug.
Thanks
Hi
Thanks for getting back to me.
So can you confirm that the ampersand character issue/bug exists and is repeatable by you?
It is quite a time waster to have to manually fix dozens of files manually – is there no automated way or code fix to do this?

Hi Nayeem,
I’m not sure what you mean and whether you read my previous message … did you try to duplicate the error?
As I mentioned, if I change the ampersand to the word ‘and’ in the file name and in the CSV file, then it works fine.
All the other files in the same location work fine as well. Only files containing an ampersand character (&) produce the error.
Here are the steps to reproduce the error:
1. Upload the file (via FTP) of the same name to the same directory structure as shown in the CSV file
2. Import the CSV file
3. Try to download the file – should say ‘Sorry! File not found!’
4. Now edit the created package and re-attach the same file using ‘add from server’
5. Delete the original attached file and save/update the package
6. Now, download should work…
Would you please confirm that you have tried these steps and you don’t get this error.
Regards
So emailing seems not to have worked – please advise how to attach the file here
Not sure how to attach a file here – I replied to your email instead hope that works for you…?
PS. what is the best way to attach screengrabs here?
OK — thanks for the speedy response.
Just to clarify, it did work when the file was in a sub-folder of the download-manager-files folder. In fact the Bulk Import documentation says this:
files: Absolute file path from your server, if you keep the files in download-manager-files dir, use just file name…
This suggests that you can indeed use a different folder so long as you specify the path – right? And just to re-iterate, I did manage to sometimes link a file this way but not consistently.
It is very difficult to dump thousands of files in one folder and then find them via the web bulk upload — it is much better/easier to have them in a hierarchical structure.
It would also be better to be able to have a ‘category tree’ in the bulk uploader (like on the Add new package page) rather than search for it by name – can this be implemented?
Please can you provide some relevant answers/support on this and not just link to articles.
It is a good plugin but has some unfortunate quirks which make more difficult to use than it has to be.
Thanks
Hi – I have already read all of that.
I tried various things and it started to work a few times but then stopped again. I will re-check my steps to see what is going on and post here.
On a related note … one thing that would be really useful is to be able to specify the category by using its ID rather than by name. Can this be achieved?

Hi Tanvir
I’m afraid I can’t give you access directly to the website due to confidentiality.
Perhaps we can talk in more general terms?
I have checked file permissions but I doubt that could be an issue.
It imports OK from the web interface as well as from the package page if you use the Select from server button.
But not on CSV import – the ID is not present even though everything else seems to be in place.
I’ll try to set up a test server so I can give you access.
Any thoughts in the meantime would be welcome

Hi – I am also having a problem uploading using a CSV file via the Bulk import function.
It seems to only work for if the file is in the download-manager-files folder. If it is placed in a subfolder however, then it looks as though it worked, it shows up in the file tree etc. but when I click to download, it can’t find the file (“Sorry! File not found!”).
I tried every variation of the path I could think of, including exactly what is generated when the file is added a different way, eg. by using the much slower web import interface.
I noticed that the problem seems to be related to the fact that an ID is not generated when importing via the CSV file. If go in and edit the package and manually attach the file, and delete the non working one, it starts working.
Please advise as we have many 100’s of files to upload and it will take forever and a day without the CSV bulk upload feature which the main reason why we purchased the Pro version.
Thanks.
PS. is there a way to attach screengrabs?
It seems to have fixed itself. Not sure the steps I took had anything to do with it. I did two things:
I could see the exported file in the asset manager so I imported it and was then able to download it via SFTP
When I SSH’d to the wpdm-cache folder and it looked empty. I then tried to list hidden files (ls -l) and suddenly the files appeared.
Since then, it works – quite strange!
PS. adding CSV as an allowed file type (in the plugin settings) did not do the trick for me.
OK – thanks for the reply.
I may have solved the problem by using an additional plugin called “Category Import Reloaded”
Seems to be working well … will post update here.
I think I may have not explained properly. I have read the Bulk Import documentation. I was asking about if it is possible to import a category structure which preserves the relationships between the categories. Eg. when a category has a parent folder?
I need to create a complicated hierarchy with many different branches and folders and it would be so much easier and quicker if there was a way of importing this structure somehow.
The CSV import does create the categories if they don’t exist already but I haven’t found a way to import a ‘category tree’.
How can this be achieved?
