We already added nextgen gallery compatibility patch with wpdm, if you are using latest version ( 2.7+ ), it should work fine, but if nextgen change something again, I’m not sure about that, may you please try contacting with them?

not actually, To download multiple files it need to create zip file and which require to bring all files in your server. So, to download all remote files in a zip, it will require to copy all remote files ( which will kill lots of processing power & time of your server ) in your server then, zip all them ( Again load in your server ). However wpdm is designed in that way for remote file, so anything is not actually broken there.

Sorry, but this is not a core plugin feature, However this add-on http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/advanced-csv-importer/ will be able to import category from next update and next update is coming within next week.
