Sure, but the search reveals ALL docs to ALL users – this is bad.
We are using this plugin because it allows us to assign downloads to users.
Search will bypass that… which is very very bad.

Ok. So right now, there is absolutely no way for a client to login, and search for THEIR downloads, based on the Description, within the WP DL Manager plugin.

Only via the title of the package.
Just so we are clear. As I was originally told otherwise.

Sure. What’s it’s purpose?
I assume it is NOT for a website where you apply downloads, set to specific users? Which is exactly what I have been asking about….

Sure, but the Search shortcode you provided – if we use that, and give it to anyone, they can access ALL USERS downloads.

Wow…
So what about the Search itself.
Load it on our site. Go to it after logging in with the Test login I sent you.
Then go to that page.
It doesn’t show results for that person, it shows results for ALL users.

Actually sorry.

The Search page brings up… ALL results. So even if you are logged in, it still shows results for ALL users who are logged in.
This is again, a high security problem.

We need it so the search is ONLY for those who are signed in. Else, it’s one heck of a security leak.

Also, can that page be added to the side menu in the Downloads screen? Else, login and see their profile and downloads… and search. But the link to this search page, is not there.

Can it be simply added to it??

The plugin has the Downloads pages that are viewable when you are signed in only. If you go to them, not signed it, and asks you to sign in.

This shortcode doesn’t do that. It reveals EVERYTHING…. to everyone.

Sorry?
Can you poss answer my question, about how to use that Search Shortcode, if you are saying that can be used on a page to search the Titles AND the Description of Packages.

Forgive me. So are you saying we need to add another page and pop that search in there?
How do we do that, and link to the page from the side menu in the profile area? As that already has a search.

Im guessing your idea is to add a Search page, in the Dropdown menu we create, and somehow get rid of the default WP DL Manager search?

Can you please advise.

Gotcha. So just Company as a role will do it. That works.
In the Search – so what we were told in Livechat, that the Search within the plugin searching the Description, was false? As this was part of the reason we went this way, as there is NO other way a user can search for a filename.

If the client add say 10 docs to a package, and lists thsoe filenames in the Description, the Search in the Plugin wuold find it. Perfect.

But it doesn’t. We were told it does. We were asked to show where it does, and now we are told it doesn’t.

Can you please add it to our Downloads page, so I can see what you mean, as you do have access.
As I am confused.

I know about the Allow Access option. But what do I put in there, so it allows access to all who are logged in?

Hi sorry can you please elaborate.
If you edit the page for downloads, you can see what code we have in there.
Are you saying that Shortcode can be tweaked so it CAN search in the Description – which is what I was told it could do in your livechat?

And secondly, Within the Allow Access – are you saying there is no way right now with our paid account, to enable it so all who are logged in, can view certain Docs. IE. if the team wanted to make one Doc available to all clients – no way to do that?

I was told on the Livechat on here, that because we cannot search for File Names, we can simply put those file names in the Description, so users can search for it.

You are now saying, this is NOT possible. So if a client contacts them to say “I need that document called xxx, where do I find it”, they have no way to search for the file name, or any keyword. And if a Package has more than one file, it is totally impossible search for that filename.

That being said, if they are logged in, does the Default Search (top right of any page) let that search result find it? But NOT in the main Downloads screen?

It’s just so all over the place. And one doesn’t find out these things til we are using it.
No way to search for Filename.
And if that filename is listed in the Description, the Search in the Downloads screen, does not allow you to find the keyword added to the description.

Oh boy.
Also, with regard to being able to enable a set file to be available in downloads to any logged in user – sorry we need to pay to be able to do that? Really?

I Was told that because the File Names cannot be searched, you simply enter the keywords into the Description and it will also search on that. But it doesn’t work.

In terms of the means of uploading a document for all signed in users to see only (not people are not NOT signed in), how do we do that? Surely it isn’t a case of manually adding ALL users individually, as that would be impossibly time consuming.

Disregard our site’s main search please. That should not be showing any results from the Download Manager at all (tho it doesn’t matter, so long as it doesn’t show results NOW assigned to that user. That’s a security risk.

This is the search in the WP Download Manager Downloads area.

What do we place in there to allow any Logged in User. If we enable All Visitors in Allow Access, it allows ANYONE access. that’s wrong.

Flailing: Sure.
The user will use that keyword or others, in the Download area itself – that is where it doesn’t find it.
We will likely remove the Site Search. But in theory, if we have ALL downlaods availbale ONLY to those who are logged in, Site Search won’t find it anyway!

Do you see what I mean? Put the Site Search aside for now. This is about the SEarch in the plugin itself/.

Thx

in reply to: Search not working, based on Description of Package #196659

No that’s not what I mean.
This idea for some of these packages is for ANY user who IS logged in, to be able to download.
But NOT for someone who is NOT logged in.
Right now, if you search for that keyword in the site’s MAIN search, it finds it. And it must NOT find it.

Second problem is that the search in the plugin itself, does not find it at all, based on the keyword in the Description.

Sorry but 300 dollars to add it is extreme.

I’ve been offered to have it done for under a third of that.
Can you confirm when it is due to be done and made live?
