Yeah, that’s kind of where we landed. We can limit the download by password, but we can’t tell when they’ve actually used it because that password doesn’t get saved when they submit the form. That would be a very helpful improvement.
We can’t actually transact the sale via the site. Can we use the download features without them having to pay via the website? Can we still limit their access by time period and track who downloaded and when?
It’s beginning to seem like this plugin unfortunately can’t do what we were hoping for when we bought it.
Does using that add-on require that all of our customers have login access to WordPress?
We are tracking that internally. The file is a software update. A year from their initial purchase they have to pay to continue access to the file. We were hoping to use the WP Download Manager as a way to track who’s downloading the file and a way to stop access if they no longer are paying. If there was a way to store which password was being used in the download log, that would solve the issue.
As noted above, our WordPress login panel is not accessible outside of our internal network for security reasons, so giving all of our customers user roles isn’t an option.
Hmm… we might be able to use that method I suppose. It would be nice if there was a way to regenerate that key automatically on a daily basis or something so that we don’t have to remember to reset it all the time.
We need a way to track the downloads and a way to revoke access when they stop being a customer. The “multiple passwords” option is almost what we need, but we can’t tell which password was used for each download in the log, so there’s no way to know who it was. Is there any way to create download links that are one-use-only?
