Hi Shahjada
Thanks for fixing the issue and I confirm that WPDM now works again on our site. I see that you have updated around a dozen program files; presumably you will incorporate these changes in the next official release?
FYI we have deleted the temporary admin login that we provided last week, but let me know if you need acsess to the site again for any reason.
Many thanks
Lawrence

Nayeem – I see that you disabled all the site plugins while doing some tests, but you left the plugins disabled. I am re-enabling them as this is a live site and people will be looking at it even over the weekend. I didn’t mind you disabling them for a short while while testing (even though I had already told you that I had done this test before) but not indefinitely.

Did you see my previous messages? I have already tried disabling all the plugins and it doesn’t stop the problem…

Hi Nayeem
Yes, but don’t break anything!
What do you have in mind? Do you have an idea of what is causing this problem?

Hi Nayeem
I tried disabling all the plugins and the same problem remains. When you upload a new file you cannot then download it, and the same or similar issue with the missing _wpdm_files record in the postmeta table is either missing or has an empty string for the filename.
Tha ball is in your court. Please escalate this issue so we can get this resolved.

Hi Nayeem
I don’t think the problem is caused by other plugins, in the same way as it wasn’t caused by an older version of PHP.
And if the upgrade process had been properly designed it shouldn’t matter what version we upgraded from.
Given the information I have given you from the database, and the fact that it only affects new uploads, please refer this issue to one of the developers. Otherwise we will both be wasting a lot of time going in the wrong direction.
Thanks
Lawrence

Hi Nayeeem
Some more info in trawling the database.

Every successful download file has two entries in postmeta, like these:
__wpdm_files a:1:{i:1659912837900;s:14:”BHINTPFF22.zip”;}
__wpdm_fileinfo a:1:{i:1659912837900;a:2:{s:5:”title”;s:14:”BHINTPFF22.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;}}
__wpdm_files a:1:{i:1662736460919;s:11:”GSOIS22.zip”;}
__wpdm_fileinfo a:1:{i:1662736460919;a:2:{s:5:”title”;s:11:”GSOIS22.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;}}
__wpdm_files a:1:{i:1650534895123;s:9:”GSCCD.zip”;}
__wpdm_fileinfo a:2:{i:1650534895123;a:2:{s:5:”title”;s:9:”GSCCD.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;}i:1632200214567;a:4:{s:5:”title”;s:9:”GSCCD.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;s:7:”version”;s:0:””;s:11:”update_date”;s:0:””;}}

But the two that don;t work are missing the _wpdm_files records:
__wpdm_fileinfo a:2:{i:16644520675611;a:2:{s:5:”title”;s:23:”1561847285wpdm_test.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;}i:1664279457759;a:4:{s:5:”title”;s:8:”test.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;s:7:”version”;s:0:””;s:11:”update_date”;s:0:””;}}
__wpdm_fileinfo a:2:{i:16644571443601;a:2:{s:5:”title”;s:8:”GSME.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;}i:16644568307171;a:4:{s:5:”title”;s:8:”GSME.zip”;s:8:”password”;s:0:””;s:7:”version”;s:0:””;s:11:”update_date”;s:0:””;}}

Does this give you and your team a clue as to why this problem is occurring?

Hi Nayeem
I don’t think that’s it.
We updated to 7.4 just now and the same problem remains.
As I asked previously, please could I ask you to check in with some of the others on your team to see if they have any ideas based on the consistent symptoms?
Thanks
Lawrence

Hi Nayeem
We can’t do this during a weekday.
One question which keeps coming up in my mind – why does upgrading from 5.3.9 to 6.2.x always crash the site? Is there a clue there?
Please could I ask you to check in with some of the others on your team to see if they have any ideas based on the consistent symptoms?
Thanks

Hi Nayeem
I have spent a couple of hours on this today and have gone round in a full circle.
I tried downgrading to the previous working verison I had (5.3.9) but no longer could get this to work.
I then upgraded back to 6.2.5 and 6.2.6 but, just as at the weekend the upgrade process crashed the website and I had to delete the plugin and then reinstall from scratch (it kept all the data).
We’re now back where we started. You can download previously uploaded zip files, but you cannot download any new zip files because it downloads an empty file called “download-manager-files”. FYI the server *does* have a folder of the same name that has plenty of files in it, but WPDM downloads an empty file with the same name as the folder instead of the target file.
BTW I tried downloading your WPDM TEST file test.zip and I get exactly the same problem. I can send you a screen shot if this helps, but how do I do this.
I urgently need to resolve this problem. Please can you escalate this as soon as possible to one of your colleagues if you can’t find a solution.
Thanks
Lawrence

Hi Nayeem
I’d rather you didn’t on a weekday as it’s our main company’s website.
One other thing that I’ve just remembered – I had to do a manual restore of the WPDM plugin folder from a backup because of a major issue over the weekend. Is there a way to do a clean remove/install of WPDM while keeping all the data?
Thanks
Lawrence

Hi Nayeem
I tried it just now using a fresh browser and the same problem persists. It downloads an empty file called “download-manager-files”. This only happened when we upgraded to the latest version of Download Manager, and only affects new files uploaded to the website. The first step is for you to reproduce the error yourself using the credentials supplied yesterday, and then suggest a fix. There are dozens of other plugins with which Download Manager has coexisted for years, so why should they be a problem now?
Please let me know how you get on – I do need this fixed today.
Thanks
Lawrence

OK, re-saving the license key (without changing it) solved the problem. Now updated to 5.2.4. Thanks!

Hi Shahjada
I can verify that the problem has been resolved.
The strange thing is, we never changed the specification of the file browser root – it has been the same for 18 months or more.
Might I suggest that, for the future, you also allow \ as a separator when specifying the file browser root? On Window-based systems, the backslash is the correct separator for folders and sub-folders.
Thanks
Lawrence

Nayeem – We have been using WPDM successfully for several years. The problem only arose when we updated to the latest version, and only affect downloads created since that update. So I don’t think it’s a server problem. Please sene me a link to download the previous version so we can go back to that version for now.

Nayeem – It’s a week since I provided the information you requested and I haven’t heard from you. What’s happening?

Not guilty! We are using a valid upload procedure, namely “Select from Server” where it nicely displays a list of the files we have uploaded to our downloads area. The problem seems to affect files selected from server, and only since 5.2.3.

See further info in private message…

… and I have just noticed that the wpdmkey parameter in the generated URL is different every time you try to download the file.

Hi
We had exactly the same problem. The fix suggested by Nayeem earlier in this thread, namely:
1 ) Deactivate and delete the old version. You won’t lose any data.
2 ) Download latest version from here https://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/user-dashboard/?udb_page=purchases
3 ) Install the latest version and activate the license key.
… worked for us, and no data or settings were lost.
I just wish the automatic update had worked.
Thanks
Larry

Hi Shahriar
Thanks very much for doing this – everything works fine now, and I look forward to the next update.
