Do I have to use the newsletter add-on? Can’t I just send out a regular email with a plain HTML link to a document?

No, for now there is no password protection … all my customer wants for the next week is a wide-open repository of .PDF files, available to all. Viewers will get plain old links emailed to them, but no email lock, no passwords, until he can have a formal roll-out meeting.
