Wow, thanks!

Indeed I will most of the time have packages with one file only, so this is an obvious choice for the option.

Still there is the other point: In the Download Manager settings I am asked to enter my wpdownloadmanager.com settings for automatic updates:

“Enter your WPDownloadManager.com login info”

But if I enter there my login name and password that I am also using on this website – to get my downloads and visit this forum -, I am still only told:

“Error: Invalid login!”

I am sure that also here I am doing something wrong – “it’s a feature, not a bug” -, but I am not able so solve this riddle.

Any helpful hint also for this problem?

Thanks and regards,
Cornelis

After some trials, looking around, trying to find options that I missed etc. I finally did the obvious: I deactivated and deleted the “Pro” version and re-installed the “Free” version. And I am really lucky: Now it is again possible to see who downloaded what when – which is basically the main information that I want (and missed with the “Pro” version).

The only thing that was additional with “Pro” was the “Stats” – but ironically this only showed those downloads that have happened before the “Pro” was installed…

Should I be mad now because I paid money for nothing? Well true, I am a bit disappointed, but what shall I say? I am a developer myself (only not for web applications) so I know that not only bugs happen, but also incompatibilities are rather the rule than the exception. I am also pretty sure that most of the time the “Pro” version probably works, but not for me: bad luck!

And finally I do not regret having spent some money, even if it is now rather a donation than a deal: I am sure these people are doing a lot of good work anyway – even for the “Free” version that I am now using again!

I just tried to simply disable, deinstall – and also remove the “WPDM Packages by Category” widgets. And then I re-installed it, and added also the widgets again – no change.

Also I tried to disable the “WP Statistics” plugin and did another test download (as “test user”), in order to see whether this download was counted: again no effect.

Actually my reason for upgrading was the hope that I would have better control of downloads for individual users because the purpose is to finally provide software downloads for software buyers. Not an online shop, but a repository. Not for thousands of customers, but still with the need to somehow treat them individually.

But if now even the download counter is gone I may consider to move back to the “Free” version instead!?

In other words: I am now a bit lost with this plugin!

Ok, I realize that my last fear was correct: After finally finding the installation instructions and explicitly reading the message to first remove the free version I did as I was told – and finally managed to install the thing – including key, activation and all.

Only the promise that nothing would be damaged was not really true: I have “categories” for my files, and these are still there. Then I had download pages supposed to show the files by category – and this was not any more true: all download pages were empty! The files are physically still in place, but not any more linked for download from my site, so the statement that I am not going to lose my data is so far correct.

I saw then that there was some “missing widget”: wpdm_catpacks… that was obviously the thing that should do the trick of displaying the packages. I removed it and added instead the “WPDM Categories” widget that looks like the “Pro” version of the old one.

Only the problem is that I still cannot see my categorized download packages as before! There may be some tricky options somewhere that I still need to change!??

Ah well, that’s it: I do not need “WPDM Categories”, but rather “WPDM Packages by Category”! That brings it back indeed.

Only thing that is still a bit disappointing: I read that upload limits on file size would now be gone with Pro – but I still see that if I want to add some download items, files of more than 16MB cannot be uploaded directly: I need to use the “plesk panel” of my provider, put the files somewhere in a folder, and then “browse” to get them attached to a package – just like it was also with the Free version…
