OK, well, this is insane as we have over 1000 codes from version 3.
Will version 3.8 if we don’t upgrade to version 4
run on WordPress 4.0.1?? Can you release a version that does run on 4.0.1 if not without much trouble?

If not the case, please let us know how much it will cost to have you write a proper migration tool that:
1) Looks at old ID Embed
2) Migrates to Custom Post Type
3) Searches and replaces references of the OLD ID with Custom Post Type
