I never got a response. Plus my client uses this plugin on their website and there have been several issues so I decided to use Easy Digital Downloads instead along with FacetWP to show custom filters. Hope this helps.

I have the same question as @candidenovellic-com, I am looking for a definitive answer, Directory Addon and Advanced Search Left pages are not giving the answer I am looking for. I want to know if I can create additional filters or categories for each download and I can show several dropdown / checkboxes to my users on directory addon page. For example if my users are teachers I want them to able to filter using default categories and tags plus additional filters like Grade level, subjects, etc.

Yes, I checked and unchecked. Both times PDF is still opening instead of automatically downloading.
