I am trying to track downloads of files on a website that uses this plugin. i have scripts in place that will find files and categorize them file file extension in google analytics events. this however breaks when anything is downloaded through this plugin since the templates do not output the url on the download button. is there anyway i can get that url to show on the download button so i can track the event without much modification? i have tried the unmask download option in the settings and im not sure what that has done, but id did not accomplish what i hoped it would. any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello Wayne,

Hope you are well. Do you want to see the statistics of download files? please elaborate on this.

Hello! yes i am pushing statistics into google analytics via event scripts. We have the scripts functional and they are correctly funneling information into the google anatlytics account for files that are not housed within the download manager plugin. the scripts are looking for an extension within the url of the download. if the its a pdf we collect the extension and categorize them in google analtyics by extension type. The download manager seems to offer up the download but the looks like there are tokens used to mask the download and the actual path of the file is not given. which makes the above mentioned script report “not set” as the category in google analytics. Is there a way or a setting to have the downloads button give the actual download path to the file so we can get the extension and pass that into analytics with our script? i have chosen to unmask downloads in the settings of the plugin but that did not seem to alter anything on the front end. any help is greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks!

Hello Wayne,

Hope you are well. If you are a WPDM PRO user you shall get an option like this as I image attached,

active-url

Activate flat download URL (beta) from the Basic settings, this setting may not work properly in all server settings and It is for beta(experimental testing) purposes. I hope you have understood.

Thank you and regards

Hello! thank you for the response. i have pro versoin and i have enabled this setting. however upon clicking it does redirect to a 404 page and does not server the file that was clicked. the tracking does now work however. so problem solved but we have created another. Is there another setting or adjustment i can make to resolve the 404 error upon downloading with this setting enabled?
