I’m late to the game and discovered that the system changed when a user told me the download files are not available.
I migrated to 2.7.5 and used settings to update. I am in the free version.
All my pages that once had [wpdm_file id=xx] no longer show download links.
Do I have to manually change the all the links to the new code?
you don’t have to change old file short-codes, but you need to migrate data from Admin Menu Downloads Settings Migrate Tab.
I did that migragation two times (creating two entries for every file), and still didn’t get it to work.
I’ve been doing a manual change to the new codes. I’ll see if there are any old codes left to show an example.

Anyhow you can use this add-on http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/advanced-tinymce-button/ to generate short-code.

the DM button disappeard on the post toolbar
PLUS
all categories are not showing files
Just Shortcode such as
Ressources
{wpdm_category=ressources}
Press
{wpdm_category=press}
Please install this add-on http://www.wpdownloadmanager.com/download/advanced-tinymce-button/ for dm button in post toolbar. You need to replace old category short-code with new ones.
