Hey guys,
I am looking to allow people to download a large file. I want to be able to give them each a unique code to activate the download.
Hoping you guys could point me in the right direction.

Did you mean each file unique code to download?
To do so you need to Enable Password Lock option. You can enable it from Package Settings Lock options tab and set a package password there, then individual file password will work.
wp-admin-> downloads -> Select file -> Package settings -> Lock options ->Enable Password Lock-> enter password -> update
