I configured recaptcha for a package but now the download link simply does not work.
I have seen that my pro license is expired, should I renew it?

You are using a very old version ( 4.6.0 – Oct 12, 2016 ), please update your copy to the latest version, everything will be working fine with the latest version.

But there is a way to make it work from category listing, like here with the icon as direct download button? I see there is no package id available in template tags

Are you referring to the download icons shown in the following screenshot?
The download works fine there too. Have I missed something?
