I have this code below but the items per page is showing 10 items… is the shortcode wrong?
[wpdm_category id="data-sheets" template="link-template-default" order_by="id" order="asc" cols=1 item_per_page="50"]

please put items_per_page instead of item_per_page, I think it should work then
