Download Manager, 2.4.1, free version
WordPress 3.5.1

My recent files have been renamed when they’re uploaded. A 10-digit code is added to the start of the file name. When users download the files, they see this strange name instead of the logical one I created. This didn’t used to happen (see the filenames in “fba a.jpg”).

I have seen another thread on this topic – but only Pro users can see the reply! If this is a feature that disappears with the Pro version, please let me know.

I have found a work-around to this.

Download Manager adds the code to any file THAT HAS BEEN UPLOADED BEFORE. So if you upload a file, correct a mistake then re-upload the file, it will get the numeric prefix.

To get around it, rename the file before you upload it a second time. I’ve started adding version numbers to them. As long as the file name changes, the file itself can be identical.

That is so lame – So I’ve got to rename any file that has been uploaded before, even by mistake? Why can’t they just be deleted? I can’t see why I have to change my file naming convention just because Download manager can’t delete files…

actually deleting file is not safe as it could be attached with another package. if file already exists in server, you can attached it from there, don’t have to upload again.

but in case if you need to delete the file , for now you need to do that from ftp. But we are adding new option to choose, where you want to overwrite existing file or not.
