Hey, I feel beyond stupid at this point cause I feel like I must be missing something incredibly stupid by now.
We have a site we are building using Divi. On that site they have need for direct download links for their users. You can view it here: http://serumdev2.com/members-forms/ . (Ignoring everything under the subtitle “Registration Forms” as that is where I am trying everything to fix this issue.)
I think it’s simple and have used [wpdm_direct_link id="Package ID"] with each of the respective ID’s. The problem is that all of these are opening into a new tab.
I have checked your settings and there is one that says “Open in Browser” which is turned off so that shouldn’t be causing the issue. I am not using target=”_blank” which should cause this effect.
I have no idea if I am somehow using your plugin wrong or if there is some other conflict going on and I simply need it confirmed. Am I using this plugin correctly by just placing the shortcode [wpdm_direct_link id="Package ID"] into my module and that SHOULD have the file be directly downloaded rather than open in a new tab.
If so, it means I simply need to find the conflict elsewhere. If not, then please inform me how I am managing to screw this up.
Thanks for your assistance.
Hey Tanvir,
Based on your video you have tested the only thing on that page that doesn’t use your [wpdm_direct_link id="Package ID"] shortcode. Whilst that was frustrating to watch, your other comment has detected the issue.
The direct download is only possible if you upload the file directly into your system, not if you use any of the other options available to grab the document from the existing media library. Since all of our documents where already on the media library, I grabbed their urls.
It would be good if your documentation on this page was updated to include this detail. Having a shortcode that only works as described when you use 1 of the 4 upload methods seems like something that should be stated to not confuse new users.
Cheers, Rhys
If you use other upload options, then there will be no control over the downloads as those are the default wordpress upload features. Those are the direct download links without any additional functions or security. WPDM overrides those if files are uploaded using wpdm. Hope you understand.
Hey Tanvir,
we struggle too. Files like videos can’t be downloaded by using download button. Instead a new page will be opened. This page contains a video-player, download BTN again does not work.
Is this thread in relation to this “issue”?
It is true that, download-buttons does not work when file is uploaded by using WP-Media-Gallery?
If true: Is there anything we can do/order to solve this?
In Downloads -> Add new there is an option “Insert URL”. Could this be a suitable workaround for overtaking files from WP mediagalery to download manager?
Hello @helmuthairlessskin-de,
Download button works fine when file is uploaded by using WP-Media-Gallery. There is no issue.
However if you face any issue downloading file, you can follow the below setting:
For further assistance, Please create a new separate topic in this forum with the regarding issue.
We will check the issue further
