I’m not using the free version, but an expired pro version.
So yea the problem is that I can’t download files any longer. I get these weird characters on my screen:

Do you have any idea what could be the problem? I’m Running download manager 4.5.5 and wordpress 4.9.2
What is your download manager version? There was a bug which is updated in latest version.
For now you can add error_reporting(0); in download-manager.php file to hide these notices.
If that not works.
Then, You also add ini_set(‘display_errors’,0); under error_reporting(0); line.
If the problem still there send login in private to check.

Did you have the problem before upgrading the WordPress core? seems like Our latest version is compatible with the latest version of WordPress. Then you should update your version to latest version as you updated the core WordPress.
After the last version of wordpress the problem occurred
We have identified the function that generates the download, could you indicate what changes are in the latest version of download-manager plugin in the donwloadFile() function of the file /libs/class.FileSystem.php

I am having the same problem and I am using download manager free version 2.9.64 and wordpress version 4.9.2. I am getting the same type of characters shown above.
