Can you tell me if this plugin (paid or free) will support .exe files

We want to be able to offer our customers a ‘download a free trial’ of card software, the file is an exe file, can this plugin do this?

yes. But if your server block exe file, you may need to upload trrough ftp. anyhow you can attach any files from server with download package using server file browser.
