for the most part, it is working. thanks for your help. there are a couple little things we’d like to clean up, but customers are able to order and checkout and then immediately get their download. thank you!

ok i see your point. yes, we don’t require a customer to setup a user account, so, i will enable guest checkout (i should have realized that, i suppose). thank you Shahjada – i will get back to you.

it does NOT work, and furthermore, it’s worse that it was.

and, now, the wp-admin page redirects to a new format page with no 2FA input so WE ARE NOW LOCKED OUT OF OUR SITE!

what now???

clearly, something is wrong because your own shortcode [download_page] does not work. after completeling the order it takes the buyer to the account page (which is not what we want at all) and they have to login – so they get the login page. after logging in, they have to look at Purchases and go through several pages to find their purchase and download it. obviously this is unacceptable. it’s totally non-intuitive and unnecessary.

we want the user to return to the download page, and we want a nice, large DOWNLOAD button, and not that tiny green one off to the far right. many users are not seeing that.

Yes, we know that. but the shortcode wasn’t working at all. so, we had to use the purchases page as a workaround as i explained above.

did you test it after you set the shortcode?

@Shahriar I had a package set to not download immediately. I suppose that could be the reason the shortcode didn’t work. We’ll try it again and let you know. Thanks.

I did that, after seeing the setup tutorial page. But its not working for us. the site owner tested it with a real purchase and the system returned to an empty cart page. all i did was change the shortcode. setting it back to the purchases page URL the customer can click on the order number, but we had to mofify the page to actually state that so the customer would know what to do. that message follows to the next page, which looks strange, but at least it works.

any idea why the shortcode doesn’t work for us? do we need to change the return page in the PayPal app too?

@Shahriar The site owner created new apps, and it all works! THANK YOU! Now, i just have one little issue, and i did look through the forum and docks. one thing is not quite clear yet:

in the example setup you have, you show a shortcode for the return URL as [download_page], but i cannot find that shortcode anywhere and how to use it. what i want is for the return URL after purchase is to go directly to the download page and not the purchases page. for one thing, it’s confusing because there is a link to the purchase order, and a search bar that says “Resolve” which is not intuitive.

at any rate, how, do i make the return to the download page where the customer can just get the file and get on with it?

Note: i did try to create a Download page in WP, but none of the shortcodes seemed to have anything to do with downloading a purchased product.

Just to be clear, the app has an email, Client ID, and Secret. you only need the CID and Secret, but not the app email?

I have done the setup and also added the sandbox and live keys. The order does not complete in the system and the customer cannot download the product. I’m reluctant to add any more products at this point. What do you suggest?

So, what was the solution? I have mine set up as correctly as I am able to ascertain. This issue is causing customer issues.

It would have saved me, and apparently a lot of other people, time and lost revenue if this above information was included in the documentation.

resolved! after pulling out my hair, it turns out that all these issues were theme-related. i should have suspected it earlier, but that theme is designed for ecommerce. just goes to show you.

great system, thanks. now, let’s make some money!

i’m using sandbox credentials, and nothing i do will make the Download button appear (it’s white). clicking on it and going to the cart does not display the PayPal purchase button.

the account email should be: 1: the sandbox @, or 2: the actual paypal account email.
should i be using the real app (not the sandbox) and in test mode?

Edit: i put the sandbox creds into the main section and it test mode, the checkout appears to work. however, the Download button with the price is still not visible on the Products page.

Edit: OK, we went live with the actual creds. 1. the Download button is still “whited out” but i believe that it’s because it’s not paid for yet. 2. The Pay With Paypal button is there on the checkout page, but it is invisible. when using the sandbox account, it was visible. clicking the invisible button re-directs to the Paypal site.

i’m really baffled at how differently the sandbox and live system is responding.

I had everything setup except the Paypal account. For some reason, I wasn’t connecting (in my mind) how the system works. It’s actually a brilliant system using pages and shortcodes to create whatever interface one needs. Thank you so much for being patient!
