Hi

The tag I was looking at was [preview] but that brings back only the URL of the image. On my site I have the thumbnails that have the alt tags because they use native code etc. What I wanted was a bigger image, or images to show samples of the download and using thumb tag wouldn’t be big enough.

You’re not missing the point, am just working out how to fetch the alt information if using the preview tag. I’ve not set up a template to do so yet, and currently the big version is set as a background using the thumb tag, but was wondering on the downloads that have multiple images how to go about doing this.

Hi,

Yes, sorry I sent the wrong template, there is on the category card template. I’d forgotten I used the image as a background image for a div on the main entry. Question still remains though, how to get WPDM to fetch the media alt tag and use it for displaying images. Any thoughts on that?

Ok, I have whitelisted your IP at cloudflare, you should be able to login and try to get the sorting problem fixed now. Am not sure what you mean it is working properly now? Anyway, please try to get that working on my website. THere’s also some other unusual things, like downloads going missing, but if you get the sorting working as it should both for shortcodes and for Gutenberg blocks.

Hi,

Yes, am sure it is working there but that doesn’t really get anything forward, obviously our setups are different and something is breaking this functionality on mine. Am sure if we both drove the same type of car, and yours developed a fault, me saying that mine was working wouldn’t really help you.

I’m going on what you said about you have found the issue and were going to update me, what issue did you find? What is the update?

I have checked again, but because nothing has changed, it is doing exactly the same. If you send me your IP address, I’ll whitelist it so you can login again. Have had to take extra precautions as there are people trying to hack currently. You logged in before, afterwards you said you’d found the issue.

List where I am facing issues??

I already listed where am facing the issues, in the post from the 13th September above, in which I took the time to add screenshots showing exactly where the issues were. You said you’d found the issue and you’d update me after that!

Plugin is the same version I have installed v3.03 , I reinstalled and the tree shortcode worked, but my original problem is still there, sorting doesn’t work. If I add the shortcode for “top downloads” it sorts alphabetically, then if I change the sort in the toolbar to downloads it gives me “page not found”.

Any progress on this ?

Also, one of my shortcodes broke after the upgrade?

[wpdm_tree category=”scripts” cat_order=”asc” orderby=”title” order=”asc”]

Just displays the shortcode now, doesn’t display the tree list.

Hi,

“Packages” is the gutenberg block, and shortcode is the one that TinyMCE adds for “most downloads” which is

[wpdm_packages link_template="link-template-panel" order_by="download_count" order="desc" paging="0" items_per_page="10" cols=1 colsphone=1 colspad=1 title="Most Downloaded Packages" desc=""]

Hi,

Sorry Nadeem, no. The widget in the sidebar worked, but I want to display on a post or a page. So only options are to use shortcode which doesn’t work, or a gutenberg block which doesn’t work.

https://pasteboard.co/756jshhwY9Zb.jpg

So, try adding via the shortcode option using tinymce wpdm addon.

https://pasteboard.co/7kZnQJvOHOgi.jpg

Gives the following

https://pasteboard.co/sU6HLtLFHKqo.jpg
Not most downloaded, if anything the least downloaded. Actually just the most recent.

So you can see even the shortcode that tells it to sort by download count, is sorting by Published Date in the screenshot. So I change the filter on the tool menu to download count.

https://pasteboard.co/KiNltspD7UZ9.jpg
and it still sorts it by publish date

Thanks for the information, seems a big set of options, could it not be stored on disk, or minimise in any way. Definitely set autoload to off, but it’s still the biggest in the options table.

Thanks for your input Xavier, it is difficult to get across what I was talking about, I did provide a link for explanation. Your links are really good also. Thanks also for the suggestion, the problem I have is that my downloads are digital zip files to be used with a software application, so I didn’t know if “software application” would work, or if there was something more in line with the way download manager was coded that would offer a better schema. Unfortunately Nayeem seemed to think I was asking generally about SEO, which isn’t the case, although schema will play a more important role with SEO going forward.

Nayeem, a theme may offer a basic schema layout, thanks, but it was something more specific to download manager I was wanting the information for. WPDM has it’s own fields which could potentially be used in a schema set up, things like author/download count/images etc. There is a schema for dataset for example, which may be ideal for WPDM, or others like book, video etc as Xavier mentioned if that’s what people are offering as downloads.

Going forward, WPDM would offer a big advantage to your customers if schema options were integrated or customisable as part of WPDM. The internet is in need of organising data for search, and with WPDM offering people a way to add large lists of download items, seems pretty essential to look at this for the future.

It would not only help me, but all your customers to read up on what it is, and how it helps. Xavier has a point about reading up on things before answering, I know it’s a lot to keep on top of support requests, but giving information that isn’t relevant back, is just going to delay a request, and frustrate the customer.

Hi,

No, it’s not a theme. I don’t really want to have to repeat what it is again.

Please close the thread, it’s going nowhere.

Nayeem…

Thanks, I already have the site indexed and linked to Google. Nothing in that article about Schema types, specifically, schema output, rich snippets, structured data etc.

.

The site has been indexed by google for about 3 years, you’re not reading what I am talking about, which has happened before. I understand it may be very busy for you, but I’m very busy also and it is really frustrating when your responses to what I am asking have are not related with what I am asking, even after mentioning the site being indexed. I even provided a link so you could see what I was talking about last time to stop the confusion.

I’ve had my site indexed for years, it does well with Search engines, that is not the question. My question was, what is the best schema layout to use with download manager. Schema is a way of managing micro data per page, so that the search engines can better classify website content. FAQ pages for example have their own schema, different from “contact” pages, or “about” pages. Given that WPDM uses custom posts and fields, I was looking for thoughts on the best type of schema to use and maybe what fields to use from WPDM for the data. There’s a schema type called software application for example.

Hi Tanvir,

Tag cloud? wasn’t really after a tag cloud, just a way to list downloads that had been tagged in the same style as the way download category archives are listed elsewhere on the site that is, in columns. You can edit the template for categories, just wondered why there wasn’t a way to list tags using the same templates. More so because WPDM supports custom tags, and tag output in its templates.

Am using a tag plugin to organise and quickly tag lots of posts / downloads and another to group them together for easier reading on a directory page showing all tags organised by category. What I was after was to display tag archives the same way as category archives.

The theme developer wrote a small snippet of code for me to filter their column output so it worked with download manager taxonomies, so I have a solution now. Thank you for your input.

Am sorry for taking so long to reply, I couldn’t find my post. This can be closed now, as I did a massive tagging exercise so all my download have tags now. However, when they display they appear as a single column row of info, all the categories display as multi column. I’ve made a post about it here. Trying to work out why, because the tag list seems just to be using the blog style (but ignoring the blog default setting of multi columns also)

Noticed they have a different url structure.. document-tag/tagname instead of tag/tagname.
