Downloads result in 500 server error after latest update

I updated to the latest version (2.9.54), and since then, the downloads have stopped working. I have shortcodes on the page, and when clicking on the download link, the site returns a 500 server error.

I turned on WP debugging and got the following:
Call to undefined method APCu_Object_Cache::incr2()…/wp-content/object-cache.php on line 242

When I disable object-cache.php, the downloads work. However, I don’t want to leave this disabled long-term. Can you assist?
