ok now I find it only works for administrator even though I have assigned one of my custom roles to be allowed to upload via this frontend.
So maybe I have to assign WP capabilities to my custom role. So where do I find out what capabilities a custom role needs to add a new package but not “Edit profile” “logout’ etc

Also it seems that ‘All items’ is a listing only the files a user has uploaded, ie it is not listing “All items” but maybe listing “Items I have previously updated”. I need this list to list all packages uploaded by anyone who has been assigned one of my custom roles, ie one who is allowed to actually do an upload. Can this be done?

I want my frontend to only have ‘all items’ and ‘add new’ tabs. How do I make this happen.

I have just noticed that even though I get a list of packages now when i am logged in as an administrator when I click on the pen icon (ie edit I think) it crashes again with page not found error messages.

Not me (still)

So by default ‘at frontend’ everyone will have access to each an every package because the default ‘allow access’ is ‘all visitors’. So I still have to modify the package ‘allow access’ to remove ‘all visitors’ to restrict access to the roles I have defined for the category so ‘sum of the roles’ to actually have some effect.

Not sure what you mean by ‘at frontend’ but I will do some experimenting over the next few days.

Can you give me the link to the documentation that explains all this because I can’t find it.

I have found a work around to my date order sorting problem.

I have decided to sort by package creation date. Even though I can’t guarantee my packages will be created in the correct time order normal practice should make any exception to be a rare occurrence. So, since creation date has no meaningful connotation in my application i can edit the creation date in any rare occurrence so that I get the correct sort order.

But as I have said elsewhere to email notifications are still not working.

Hi
You already have an temp admin login to my dev site already – see “Can’t get Front end to actually work”.
Also it has nothing to to with ‘setup’ as far as i can see. It is a function you supply within the ‘add new package’ menu item.

I don’t understand your comment – “Again, package access will work in this way, when you are creating a package, you can assign category to this package and also select roles for this package. Finally, effective package access roles will be union of the roles you selected for the package and the roles from selected categories, so, if “All Visitors” are selected anywhere there, the package will be accessible by every one.”

You seem to have totally misunderstood my original post so I’ll try again –

Under ‘categories’ ‘add new category’ when I add a new category I can, and do, “Select the roles who should have access to the packages under this category”. see screen capture posted above.
Then when I add a new package and assign a category to that package then the roles I have selected for that category ARE NOT being assigned to that package. I still have to modify the “allow access” field to suit the access I need.
So i ask my questions again –
1) why “Select the roles who should have access to the packages under this category” and not have it used when a package is created.
2) and if 1) is not working because of a ‘bug’ or something – then – if i edit a category at a later time and change the ‘selected roles’ then will all previously created packages with that category assigned to them have their ‘allowed access’ changed to the new values?

BTW – still not getting email notifications of replies. Nothing in my spam folders and I am receiving notices from other forums
thanks

nothing to do with “settings” at all. Its under “Categories” “Add New category”.
See attached screen shot. I have cut screen shot shot so that my site custom roles are not being shown. They and all the other standard WP roles are listed below “all visitors” at the bottom of the screen capture

No email in the spam folder

I will send an email but it would be much simpler if I could just ‘forward’ this thread to them. Then i would not have to reinvent the wheel by retyping (even though i will copy and paste) my requirments

I changed the urls to as above

no change

I think I have my settings correct as I have created pages with these shortcodes and selected them in the settings page (so i think that is what you mean by “dashboard pages”)
I will attach some screen shots as a private post next

Please explain your comment in more detail.
that is – what do you mean by “but it can be achieved through customization”?
ie Something I should be able to write? Integrated in to my child theme – where would I get a full description of what is required?
Something you have to write? – presumably as an addon for others to use.
If you have to write it, as an addon or not, – how long would it take? how much would it cost?

TIA

I just upgraded to 4.2.1 and I see no “collapse option so that it looks simpler.” as per above. Where should I have found it?

Ok thanks Shaon.
Can it be done with a css snippet in my child theme? My attempt hasn’t worked?
