I asked this question on the WP plugin page:
Is it possible (pro is ok) to make a page of all the downloads available, and allow the user to select multiple files to download at once….then have those downloads packaged in a single zip file? I’m looking for a shopping cart-like functionality, BUT we do not sell our downloads. So I don’t want to be hindered by a bunch of unnecessary payment gateways, or user-facing messages about payments or shopping.
and the answer was that yes, I can make a package. But I don’t think that is quite what I want, so I need some clarification.
If I — the admin — create a package, then I am defining the package. Let’s say it contains files A, B, and C. If the user selects this package, he will get those three files that I put together in the package. No options.
But the end user — the visitor to the site — he wants to download files A, C, E, and X. I don’t know that he wants those particular files, so I want him to select which ones he wants and create his own “package”.
I realize this resembles shopping cart functionality. However, we do not sell our downloads. They are included with membership, so I want these users to pick which downloads they want. It would be great if they could select several downloads and have them all zipped together in a single file.
I also realize there could be file size limitations that would come into play, and could make this difficult if someone chose a lot of large files.
But I’m just wondering if the option exists within the WPDM plugin (free or pro) to output a list of downloads on a single page, with a checkbox next to each one, so the user can select the downloads he wants, then they can all be zipped together “on the fly” for him to download.
If this requires the shopping cart add-on, I will need to know whether the shopping cart can operate without any payment gateways at all, and no prompts for the user to pay…just go straight to the download.
Thank you!
